Ukraine was taken by Russia through war - that doesn't create an everlasting bond. When the Russian empire collapsed Ukraine declared independence but civil war broke out for control . The Soviets then invaded taking a lot of Ukraine with Poland holding the rest. Then the Soviets took control of all of Ukraine in 1939 via a pact with Nazi German. So a bond?.
History repeating - Ukraine had independence once again with the collapse of the USSR, and now Putin's Russia wants to take it once more.
