Increasing rates puts downward pressure on inflation. The sooner the pressure is applied the better, before it gets out of control.

That is why interest rates are needed to keep a cap on inflation.
Interest rate rises encourage more saving and less spending/demand .
Less demand means less demand for energy.

If you want to cut your demand, turn down your thermostat by a few degrees and do a bit more walking and taking a bus instead of using your car.

inflation is an increase in the cost of living - crisis at this stage is a vast exaggeration. Getting spiralling inflation with CPI at 10% and increasing is the concern - interest rate rises are needed before we get to an inflation crisis.

Next MPC meeting is on the 18th March, at which I imagine that they will vote to raise interest rates
