As far as I am aware the operational business within Aviva is not about to shrink.

Aviva are simply returning cash sitting on the balance sheet to shareholders, which has arisen through past disposing of assets, that Aviva didn't want in the new streamlined set up.

So the proposal is that every household should simply be given money, without having risked a single penny. whereas many investors have risked in some cases substantial amounts in oil and gas. People have short memories - BP not long ago was trading below £2 and for a while Oil was below Zero.

The only thing to bear in mind though, that if purchasing now you may wish to take into account that you would soon be getting about £1 a share back soon , reducing the amount invested by that amount.
I invested more than I would have on Friday, knowing the £1 return would get me back to what I would like to invest.

There are no pros and cons - consolidation is a cosmetic exercise.
It all comes down to whether Aviva is at a price worth buying, whether that is before or after the return and consolidation.

how many more times has the same thing have to be said - the buybacks are a return to shareholders, but reducing shares in issue - they can also increases metrics such as asset value per share - there will be fixed price that the market values Lloyds at as measured against the asset value. The market determines Lloyds value on a daily basis -currently the market values Lloyds at well below asset value.
I believe Lloyds TSB at one time had a market value of double asset value

Could have done better if waited for SP to drop to just before yesterdays close level.
History says CSDI buys are conducted when markets are high, rather than holding onto cash for longer term, and buying when SPs are rock bottom.
