If you get heavy weight of wiling sellers then that is more likely put a downward pressure on prices and at the same time giving MS more share buying opportunities.
This trend can obviously alter intraday resulting in a closing price that is up on the day

No.
There are limits on the number of shares that can be purchased based on a percentage of market volume. The market volume was low today and also the Ftse 100 well up (more than Lloyds).
You could also get very little bought or none at all on a sharp spike up in price due to being over 5% ? higher than the average of the previous x days.
MS can only purchase what others are willing to sell and within limits.
Low market volume can add to more volatility, so you could just as well have a slide in price on such a day.
High market volumes gives the opportunity for more purchases by MS with the share price on the day finishing in either direction.

Not sure how some shareholders would cope if they saw the share price plummet further from here, to be able to get near to 5 Billion shares (40p average) bought back - over 4 Billion purchased is looking increasingly likely - 4.5 Billion a possibility.

Pref share values have been declining as interest rates have been going up, and thus increasing the yield on prefs.
The value will go up and down with interest rates.
