As far as I am aware the total amount has been written down in the books, hence the the first quarter loss.
Of course a future situation may enable the assets to be sold, generating a 'bonus' for shareholders.

I noticed my dividends that were due Monday at about 2 am Sat in my HSBC account .
I find though that with certain stocks I get the divi late.

The 50 dma on 17th Aug was 43.67 - why were millions of shares bought on the 18th at 45.68p?
The 50 dma on 18th Aug was 43.69 - why were millions of shares bought on the 19th at 45.11p?
The 50 dma on 19th Aug was 43.71 - why were millions of shares bought on the 22nd at 44.53p?

A share buyback programme spend is not dependant upon a share price not increasing during the course on a programme.
The current spend on the 3 month buyback at BP is well above 50 dma.

The most likely restriction when an algo is in operation throughout a trading day is no purchases 5% above the average of the previous 5 trading days .
Yesterday 12 shares were purchased at 45.84p on the order exchange CHIX.
There would be no algo written that would decide to purchase just 12 shares at 45.85p at 14:44 and 36 seconds on the 9th Sept 2022

I believe plastic notes have a lifespan of a few times that of the old paper ones and would cost a fortune to replace all notes immediately .
Surely the only sensible thing to do is for new King Charles III notes to be made as replacements for QE II as they need replacing.
Some £5 notes could be replaced almost immediately and overtime, as they were first produced about 6 years ago. Same with £10 notes first in circulation about 5 years ago. The £20 note however were first produced only about 2 and half years ago so they should all still be in a usable condition currently.

Since the UK government sold it's stake in BP many years ago, it has grown to be one of the biggest companies in the world in it's field .

We have had a debt for hundreds of years - once debt was to pay for wars - now we live in an age of welfare/handouts, NHS, public services etc.
If you got rid of these things then a big dent in debt could be made very quickly. That is not going to happen.
