don't know where you got that from. An investor may be happy getting a 10%+ return and rising each year at Lloyds current price and retaining the investment for many years and not worryimg about an alternative.

Lloyds prospective forward yield is 5% +, with a progressive dividend policy.
Curremtly able to afford a total return to shareholders of 10% +

As far as Lloyds is concerned, there will be many happy investing knowing that they can currently afford to return over 10% per year to shareholders

the only logic is that Lloyds can if they so wish make a return of excess cash by way of a special dividend as they have stated this already.
My guess is that it would be logical to use further Lloyds shares investments as the main way of shareholder return whilst the price is below nav.

the truth is that Lloyds can afford a special dividend which they have stated is a method option for them to return excess capital to shareholders, but they may decide once again to just make another investment in Lloyds shares. A little over 2 months away to see what they have decided.

final dividend to be declared in February should be at least 1.6p making a total yearly dividend of 2.4p, which would put Lloyds at the current price on a yield of over 5%.
They have a progressive dividend policy. In addition Lloyds can currently afford to return a similar amount back to shareholders via share buybacks unless they use the capital for acquisitions.
Increased NIM should hopefully help counteract provisions that Lloyds may decide to make due to as yet unknown economic situation in 2023.
Lloyds mortgage book has a low LTV ratio so falling house prices should not be much of a problem.
