quite straightforward - staff can save up to £500 per month for up to 5 years with the option to purchase shares at the end of the period for a price fixed at the time of the scheme period.
Lloyds do not hold shares - and shares that staff wish to purchase gets issued to them as new shares.

quite straightforward - they would purchase shares in the market and cancel them, matching the number of new shares purchased under your scheme so as to not increase the share count because of the scheme.
It looks like your employer also doesn't hold shares in treasury
