In 3 trading days a bit over 31 million shares so far have been bought back.

The sellers of shares and the market don't care whether it is X, Y, or Z who are taking shares off of their hands.

Total shares changing hands in those 3 days is most likely to have been over

600 million.

An Algo used in a buyback will not make the running with increasing BIDs throughout the day - it will take some of the asking prices from sellers within rules and limits.

The market valuation of Vodafone has increased on the back of results and the markets view of future prospects and profitability and not from a so far handful of shares that have been purchased by a particular purchaser, that the market knew would happen weeks ago.

APPLE shareholders did very well (including me) with having NO dividends paid for a long period of time.

BT currently continuing an upward move from way undervalued levels.

They do not 'consider'. An algo will be doing the buying, which may or may not have limit prices built in, determining a maximum percentage price that can be paid over and above the average of the previous 5 market days prices.

A reduction in share count will increase an investors percentage ownership and increase per share metrics.

The market determines the valuation of BP on a daily basis. Buybacks have ZERO impact on market valuation. If a market valuation remains constant, then the price for each share would increase determined by the decreased number of shares in issue.

In May 2021 there were about 20.24 Billion shares in issue with a share price of about £3 - Market cap about £61 Billion

Today there are about 16.75 Billion shares in issue with a share price of about £5. - market cap about £84 Billion.

So about a 17% reduction in share count and about a 37% increase in market cap.

I have also seen the whinging about buyback on a number of boards - it is pathetic. Any investor not liking them can invest elsewhere.

There are many metrics combined that would determine staff bonuses.

I am more than happy for eps to simply be one of those many, as I as a shareholder would greatly benefit from increases to the amount of money BP make for each share held.

The market decides on the valuation of Vodafone on a daily basis - buybacks have ZERO influence on that .

If buybacks reduced the share count by 15% and the market maintained the current valuation at £21 Billion, then the price per share would have risen by 15% - simple.

Reducing the share count would increase the per share metrics.

small? - once again think again.

as well as increasing a shareholders ownership by a good percentage,whilst buybacks are a preference , eps will increase, and thereby contributing towards further increases in dividends per share. At a point where the BOD's feel that share repurchases are not at such bargain levels and therefore suspend them, then at that point monies would be redirected to further increases in dividends . Buybacks are a great benefit at bargain price levels for shareholders staying for the longer term. If an investor does not like them then there are plenty of alternative investment options for them to pursue.

Yes.

They have in the past (over many years) done a number of buybacks and held in treasury, a number of which were ones to offset shares issued via convertible bonds.

There has in the past been over 5 Billion shares held in treasury.

Money buying back shares will certainly go a lot further at today's prices.
