Once again you are clueless -- buybacks are a return to shareholders by way of a reduction in share capital.
The profit pie will be sliced into fewer slices for remaining shareholders.
Shares for employees in many businesses will take place regardless to whether one company decides to purchase and hold them or whether new shares are issued, it is the same net result. Vodafone are a business that holds them. The vast majority of the shares bought from the total 4 billion allocated will be shares that will be cancelled.
