Gimlet, HL act as brokers through 30 MM's but are NOT MM's themselves

When you cannot get a quote through HL, or any other non market making trading platform, for an AIM share, this is because AIM shares typically have just a few MM's ( whereas BP for example will have 20 odd ) and therefore it's easier for these shares to become illiquid.

Re one share purchase : I personally have never believed the notion that market makers 'send' codes to each other this way. Whilst so called Chinese Walls are geared to stop insider trading within companies there are well oiled covert ways to exchange information outwith the system.

Most likely the single share trade is to check a MM is open on the ask, that a laptop/phone is functioning or infantile thrill seeking imo

I may have a blindspot on this but when would we actually have a 'no sale' situation apart from an announcement that the company was 'off the market'?
