Message to Refinitiv (Reuters)14 Jan 2021 17:05
OK so I recently asked a very helpful chap at Stockopedia to get Bushveld reclassified from 'Uranium' to 'Renewable Energy' (seeing as there's no 'Vanadium' category). The response he had back said they did not think BMN fit into their definition of 'Renewable Energy.' So I have decided to message Refinitiv myself with the below. Will update the board once I hear back.
"Request to correct Bushveld (BMN) classification to 'Renewable Energy'
I understand that the following definition is used for 'Renewable Energy' and it's clear that BMN meets this criteria, as I shall explain below.
"For the Renewable Energy Industry:
Manufacturers of renewable energy equipment, as well as service providers, and producers and distributors of renewable fuels. Includes manufacturers of solar power panels, hydrogen fuel cell systems, wind turbines, solar water-heating systems, wave power equipment and geothermal heating systems. Includes also renewable energy system installation and consulting services.
Reasons why BMN meet the criteria:
- They have set up "Bushveld Energy" which provides consultancy services to the Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) sector, and VRFBs are increasingly playing a vital role in making the world greener. VRFBs are also much better than lithium-ion batteries, because they last indefinitely / do not need replacing, and - unlike lithium - they're unlikely to cause a [wild] fire.
- They have invested and now partially own 2 VRFBattery manufacturers called "Enerox" and "Invinity Systems" (AIM:IES).
- BMN are constructing an Electrolyte Production Plant. [and electrolyte is used in VRFBs]
- BMN have set up a company in September 2020 to rent out electrolyte for multi-year periods to reduce the upfront costs of installing VRFBs; and they have already signed an electrolyte rental contract with "Pivot Power" (part of EDF Renewables).
- Eskom, Africa's largest utility company, launched a tender in August 2020 for seven very large renewable energy batteries to be built across South Africa; and BMN is rather likely to be part of the winning bid for some if not all of them. [Unlike the points above, this bit is yet to be announced]
On this basis, I believe that BMN should be reclassified as 'Renewable Energy' rather than 'Uranium' and hope that you agree?
Look forward to hearing from you soon."
