latest article out is 3 hours old and says;

Virgin Atlantic is considering an acquisition of U.K. regional carrier Flybe.

"Virgin Atlantic has a trading and codeshare relationship and confirms that it is reviewing its options in respect of Flybe, which range from enhanced commercial arrangements to a possible offer for Flybe," the company said in an emailed statement.

The way I see it, with 3 bidders looking to take over, does that not reduce the risk some what?

The way I see it.. bidder 1 will put in an offer then bidder 2 & 3 will look to bid more until there's no higher to go and someone's left to pay the highest price ... Or maybe it's not as simple as that? Whether that's for the slots, the assets, the future potential, or just so that a rival competitor doesn't get what they want or force them to pay a high price for something through fun and games or even a high ball offer just for vanity purposes.. WIlly & Dick seem to have a rivalry that spans back years, especially in this industry.

Either way, I personally think it's de-risked day by day, but who knows, this is the stock market after all I've learnt to expect the unexpected.

With low-cost rival easyJet counting itself out of the running on Tuesday, IAG boss Willie Walsh is facing competition from Virgin Atlantic, which has confirmed it is weighing a move for the troubled carrier.

The battle comes as regional airports brace themselves for the fallout from Flybe’s problems. Industry research shows more than nine in 10 of scheduled flights in and out of Southampton are operated by Flybe. It also services around 80pc of scheduled flights from Exeter and Belfast. Around 50pc of those from Cardiff and Southend airports are run by the regional carrier.

The Welsh government has been urged to step in to help save Flybe and ­preserve the future of Cardiff airport amid concerns that “its loss would be catastrophic”.

On Thursday, the Department for Transport handed Flybe customers a £2.6m annual windfall. Four daily flights ­between Heathrow and Newquay were launched with a pledge from the DfT of a £15 discount to duties levied on the 170,000 passengers ­expected to use the service each year.

The battle between Sir Richard and Mr Walsh revives an acrimonious ­rivalry that has lingered for over a decade. The pair have traded verbal blows over the years as the two airlines battle to control the skies over the Atlantic.

Mr Walsh made a bet in 2012 that Virgin Atlantic would not exist in five years’ time. IAG and Virgin Atlantic ­declined to comment
