The strike will continue. No news on next meeting suggest that next week negotiations will continue. Coal at the port will probably run out now & TGA profits will be hit.

Transnet has debts of R130Bn so unions unlikely to get 13% pay increase but may get nearer 9% due to implications of cost of the strike. I think it will be settled today as workers will suffer should it continue.

Union negotiations are today.
Likelihood is that the strike is resolved as the cost is too extreme.
SP likely to return to normal as soon as news is released. Could be a gain of +200p on current price.

M&S SP has been gliding down all year but has a positive operating margin of 5.26% (Y2022) & revenue is increasing.
Easy to read the market as negative but not the case for every stock. M&S MCAP 1.84B

UK still at the lowest unemployment rate since May 1974 - A very long way to go before a serious recession takes hold.
Age of adaptation of the digital economy. Changes will be faster & less understood. BUY BOOs (and M&S).

One big problem for mail order deliveries is the actual delivery. With a surge in vans making deliveries since the pandemic & road networks in favour of bicycles, the road network & deliveries are grinding to a halt. To meet demand & speed up deliveries more vans (& cycles) are being deployed but there is no more capacity on the road network.
At some point Boohoo & others will require retail stores or cease to increase sales unless local collection hubs become the new norm for deliveries.

Port and railroad workers’ indefinite strike across South Africa over pay
Tens of thousands of Transnet port and railroad workers began indefinite strike action throughout South Africa on Thursday, demanding a 12 per cent pay increase. Inflation is currently at 7.6 per cent.

Transnet’s rail and ports facilities play a central role in South Africa’s exports of bulk commodities such as coal, iron ore, chrome and manganese.

The United National Transport Union (UNTU) members rejected Transnet’s new offer of three percent, paid at the end of October with back pay deferred to next year. Members of South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) will join the strike on Monday if they vote to reject the latest offer.

All industries are likely to take a hit over the winter period. BUY your BOOs wisely. Held well in the mid 30s today despite downward pressures. Chances of 30p are very low IMO. SP increases will depend on the economic news as it is currently suppressing the whole market.
