For example , I have two full time employees in the cow business , a couple looking after the olives ( only pay one salary ) , a full time maid , a part time gardener and a carer for my mum. The total wage bill including social security for the full timers is less than 2 grand gbp per month. I would have to be a multimillionaire to afford all that in the UK.

But I live in the south of Turkey where land and business set up and running costs are far cheaper particularly if part of your income is from abroad.

I think 'at any price' is a stretch my highest buy was at 296 next at 278 on the basis that any price under 300 presented good value. Stopped buying when the second quarter results came out with that word 'resilient' used to define the new divi until the price went sub 250.
Basically . I am happy sitting on the sidelines until a pandemic, banking crisis , underwater well blowing up or some other event comes along and lets the market create value for me . I'm not someone who thinks I can find value through long ours of research that an army of highly incentivized and intelligent analysts have missed ( give me a slap in the face if I look like taking those long odds). I then hold those stocks for 2-4 years and repeat. Technical analysis is more in play for me in more normalized markets. This strategy has worked very well for me in the past but I don't invest much in stocks . These days, I prefer saving money to buy land and expending my farming businesses ( cows and olives) and very occasionally properties.

Of course I nibbled at under 2 (193.5) and at 206 and at 222 and at 237... all the way up to 296 and will continue for a while longer as opportunities allow.

Feels like we may have topped out . Hope everyone followed tacet's oft repeated advise and didn't buy in the 204-212. You did follow your own advice didn't you tacet ?

I'm really unimpressed by these electric whatever cars.
1. You can't out run anything ( should you need to)
2. The range isn't bad if the entirety of your journey is on flat landscape.
3. No one really knows how durable they are ( a petrol car can last you 30 years )
4. No one says anything about how reliable they are , how expensive the components are should you need to get it fixed or even how many ' mechanics ' actually have training to fix the damn things .

Quite honestly, I was hoping for something more grandiose, out of the ordinary, sensationalist. We know for example that the energy sector has been trying to muddle the message by the consensus of scientists on the causes to global warming . We know that companies frequently lie about their activities and also exaggerate the benefits of their products and services. That governments and leaders have always fabricated evidence to justify wars, have spied on their prominent citizens and spun stories around top secret projects and will continue to do so.
I must admit to a sceptical bias though, for had you told me that the Canadians had developed a device nicknamed the' gay-dar' for ferreting out homosexuals from their police and armed services , I would not have believed you.

Understandable, then of course there are those funds that have blacklisted BP for not being green enough. You can't win. Eventually, the needle will shift and the vast majority of funds will not invest in the black gold for ethical reasons as they currently don't in tobacco. Will this matter ? If you look at Tobacco stocks and how they have performed since the 1990's when they too were marginalized by the markets the answer is a resounding NO!
All this is just noise, ignore it . A 2 Trillion dollar company like Apple might need 9 out of 10 fund to invest in it to sustain it's share price but a 50bil dollar company does not.

Doubt that but nevertheless ,remarkable and very encouraging . Market's down , oil is down 5% and BP.....BP seems indifferent . Has the selling exhausted itself ? Are we entering a sideways trading range or is this the eye of the next storm ?

Yes, maybe, the sp strengthened towards the end of the day ( very unusual) and all the more impressive considering the circumstances. Perhaps we are getting some rotation from the herding in tech to the undervalued areas of the market. ??

So, based on the current divi and at what yield investors were prepared to hold BP prior to the Pandemic .We can expect the top end sp to be about 3.00 gpb once earnings begin to normalize and oil recovers, until some meaning progress is on the capital growth strategy. BP it seems has chosen to pay in rather than pay out it's earning.

Yes, what BP said is that the divi would be ''resilient at 5.25 usc'' . In other words an earnings recovery won't be used to pay higher dividends but instead be employed to pay down debt, buy back shares and facilitate the transition to green energy.

What are they going to fill up with if their pension fund managers are selling stocks yielding 8% ?

What's a guess worth ?
Not expecting a divi cut for reasons outlined by others especially if the results miss. I wouldn't worry too much about how good or bad the results are as the macro picture is the biggest factor driving the share price.
