Stumpy - if you've had it on your radar for months you could have bought in for well under your target price... Just my opinion but I can't see it dropping back there again now

I'd say they are much better positioned long term, but let's call it what it is - the results are not great

I agree with Sheltie's assessment, and personally I'm not adversed to financial redress in situations where customers have been actively misled.

What I can't stand is the firms of ambulance chasers trying to entice everyone onto the bandwagon with the promise of free money (for them more than anyone else). The irony of course being that a lot of the adverts I keep seeing on social media now in relation to legal claims are also grossly misleading.

Surely given the news and the price action recently it is reasonable to assume that CBG would attract some new PIs too? The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned, as long as they aren't trolling the board :/

Hi Scooter, great job brining your average down so much... as has already been said it sounds like you've done the hard work.

If you're at break even now then I guess the obvious question is would you buy in at this point? If not then it may be a smart time to exit, or at least take.some of that investment off the table. Personally though I see this as a buying opportunity up until the SC verdict is announced and the price adjusts accordingly, at which point I will reassess (as I'm sure will many others)

If the liability is fully provided for (SC outcome pending of course), and given the strength of the balance sheet this notwithstanding then I personally don't think it will take more than a couple of years for the dividend to be fully restored - all other factors being equal. There is just no real reason for CBG to be sat on hundreds of millions in surplus cash, especially given that it has traditionally positioned itself as an income stock with investors.

Obviously I should add that I am bullish here, and have built my position with a long-term view that it will generate significant dividend income for me going forwards

Absolutely, my trade went through at £3.03 for just under 5k shares... If there's nothing else driving it that is just free money!

Urgh - even the language used in the headline screams ambulance chasing to me... they aren't even pretending that they have been duped/shafted financially, it's the kind of language you'd expect to hear from someone who forgot to buy a lottery ticket the week that their numbers came up.

Fang - how much they've spent in legal fees will be significantly less than their potential exposure if they hadn't challenged... hence the significance price rise

I really don't think you have the measure of CBG, so would urge a bit more research and caution in your investment plays. Over the next couple of months we are due to get a lot more certainty over the motor finance issues, confirmation that the potential liability has been fully provided for, or over provided for etc.

The SP here isn't going back to 250p... I'd be surprised if it goes below 300p at this point

M007j - my take is that markets like clarity, so whilst the worst case scenario has more or less been taken off the table I still think the ruling will have a significant positive impact on the SP. Perhaps not so much in of itself, but I would expect a few things to happen in relatively succession... i.e. an RNS from CBG that puts a much more accurate value on the liability, confirmation (hopefully in the same release) that said liability is fully provided for on the balance sheet, and then all other things being equal a re-iteration of their intention to presume their progressive dividends policy...

Chid - what I think you're saying is that you have a lot of Lloyds shares so the Govt intervention is good, But you hate the government so anything they do is also automatically bad?

Land - I'm not sure what the purpose is of intentionally quoting people out of context in all honesty? I head back through Sheltie's posts, purely out of curiosity, and they were clearly mooting whether there was an orchestrated short attack mounting on CBG, with the aim of driving the price below £1.50 in order to attempt a takeover.

It might have been a little but of a stretch, but it clearly wasn't a negative view on CBGs fundamentals or risk profile

I mean let's face it, a lot of the bad news around motor finance was priced it when it dropped to around £5 last year... it's only really the risk of a worst case scenario that drove it down from there, and the news of appeal and then yesterday's intervention has pretty much taken a worst case scenario off the table

What's the feeling on where this might now settle today / ahead of either a positive interim RNS or the judgement itself? Yesterday's news was very welcome and I'm significantly up here now, but trying not to get too ahead of myself as it's still going to play out over a number of months...
