What was the first plane with a jet engine?
In 1939, one of von Ohain’s engines was used to power the Heinkel He 178, the first jet aircraft. Whittle’s engine was used in the Gloster E.28/39 plane of 1941. Today, most military planes, almost all airliners, and many small business planes are powered by jet engines. The Gloster Meteor was an early jet fighter.
