Plus once timber cut site stays empty some years before replanting.....................

After felling, the ground is left "fallow" for a few years due to the dying wood being a habitat for weavel, that then go on to feed on the young newly planted trees. After a few years the life cycle of the weavel is over and they no longer live on the site or pose a threat. If it was planted straight away, large quantities of insecticide would need o be used to control the weavel, to get the young trees established. Leaving it fallow reduces the need to use chemicals on the land.
