James,
Hypothetically speaking, if the Labour party win a forced general election... even if the nationalise all the utilities, the railways, make the multinationals pay their fair share, plough money into all public services etc...
It won't make any meaningful difference to you economically. You might get some satisfaction out of seeing those that have losing some money, but the number of migrants Labour lets in will only make mortgages and rents more expensive for you.
The Tory's are not doing a good job of that either, they've done nothing to make meaningful dent in migration numbers. The biggest expense a young person or any person for that matter is a house. Whether it's rent or mortgage, even if you live with your parents that's not sustainable, it's depressing.
The number one reason for Rents and Mortgages being ridiculously high in the UK is rampant immigration. The Tory's don't want this to end which is why Sajid Javid is trying to extend Freedom of Movement for at least 30 months, and Labour were literally the ones that caused it to get out of control when Tony Blair abolished the opt out of the Freedom of Movement in 1997, that John Major had previously negotiated.
Put it this way, I'm 100% certain that if Tony Blair had not done this the UK would have voted to Remain in the EU. I would even vote to Remain, sure the other aspects of being in the EU are somewhat annoying. But Immigration was "thee" issue for me, and the vast majority of leave voters, the polls leading up the referendum showed this too.
Crazily high levels of immigration is thee reason Young people have very bleak prospects in the UK going forward. And I think it's a shame that young people have been indoctrinated in through the education system into believing that immigration is good for them personally.
As immigration climbs the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
