"Surely it can't stay above 7000 for long."
I wonder if they said that in the 80's and 90's... surely it can't stay this high, or go higher. In my opinion given time, markets rise. There are corrections, crashes etc... but over time they rise.
Might be now, might not be. There could be a correction, there might not be one for ages. That's a decision for you and only you to make mate. But when the markets high, risk management is essential. When entering, split your total pot into 4 - 5 chunks, and each chunk allocated to particular stocks of choice... then go in with minimum 3 tranches on each chunk on separate stocks to get a good average on each stock should a correction occur.
If there's a rise immediately you can either take a small profit on the initial tranche, or add to a winning position. If there's a big drop you can either take a small percentage hit on the small tranche, or average down so you can make a quicker profit when the price recovers.
There's a time to go all in, and a time to be strategic. In my opinion as markets are high this is more of a time to be strategic.
