The FTSE itself has barely moved since the start of the year, and it's MACD on the daily has just turned negative. So looks like this year is going to be a ranging year... where it doesn't tank big time, but doesn't rise much either.

No I didn't hold Glen on ex divi. But never had any issue with late dividend payments with HL on other stocks. Nor seen people moan about them.

Change to a decent broker like Hargreaves Lansdown :-)

They may be completely innocent. But that's how it was implied initially with the Lonmin killings, then I seen the full video of the actual shooting on a website that has stuff like that, that I won't name. They charged at the police with machetes etc. The police were wrong too though, after the legitimate shooting... they started hunting people down that were retreating and no threat to them. I'll reserve judgement on the VED one for now... if the news is on mainstream media, especially the BBC, they're the worst for not telling the whole truth. Not lying, but not telling the whole truth.

To be clear on the Lonmin killings, it wasn't all justified... the police started hunting them down after the initial shooting that's where they went wrong. The first shooting was justified in my opinion even if the leftist media didn't paint it that way.

Most miners have some business in 3rd world countries where things like that happen. It won't be the last time employees are killed during a strike/employment dispute. The Lonmin one... most of it was justified, the crowd charged at the heavily armed police, many of which carrying machetes. I don't know a lot about VED, but it depends how much you've risked, it's all relative. Like Glen for example... I only have 5% of each of my pots in it. If it halved in value I'm not going to lose sleep over it... I'd probably buy more. But a lot of people on these forums chuck the kitchen sink at stocks trying to get rich quick. That works when the market has been slaughtered before hand, but when it's high it's a recipe for stress. I'll let someone else answer your question that's more clued up on VED than I am.

Good news is there's a gap down this morning from 391.70p, so that has a good chance of being closed. Bad news is the gap up from 346.45 has never been closed, so I would't be surprised to see it heading there. Like I said most gaps are closed not long after they form. Sometimes a breakaway gap happens when a stock is breaking out of a range and the breakaway gap isn't closed for a long time. But more often than not gaps get filled not long after they're formed... usually within a few weeks.

1. You can't get the latest Hollywood releases at home, there's a delay in getting them. 2. Cineworld offers a fixed monthly fee for unlimited movies. It's not expensive for most people... no more expensive than buying a Chinese Takeaway for two people. But I understand with property prices... but not everyone is saving for a deposit. 3. The results show growth, not Cinema dying. In my humble opinion, Cinema is not dying if anything it's growing with the right business model in place. I hate going to a Cinema knowing I'm going to pay through the nose for it. A set fee, you know where you are at all times. The variable amount you spend is dependent on how much you spend at the food/drink counter.

I see the closest to the unlimited movies model is Cinemark the number 3 Cinema chain in the USA offering one 2D adult movie per month for $8.99 and other discounts. Maybe the business model doesn't work in the USA due to the owners of the movie rights not allowing it. Need to look into it.

I don't think the USD is going to stay weak for a long time. But as long as commodities stay in demand Copper etc will rise over time. The DXY (Dollar index) had been drop since the end of 2016... but it bounced off it's 200 period moving average on the monthly chart and looks to be recovering slowly. A strong dollar doesn't guarantee weak commodity prices, if the commodities are needed and in demand they have to be bought. But short term movements are likely to be determined by speculation (gambling) until clarity of the fundamental demand picture comes through. I haven't been reading much about demand, but I will now I'm holding rather than trading.

Does anyone know if Cineworld plans to roll out it's UK business model of unlimited movies for a fixed monthly fee across the 561 Regal Entertainment theatres? And whether or not the Regal Brand will be kept, or rebranded as Cineworld? Having looked at the websites of all the main competitors in the USA, none of them seem to offer unlimited movies. I think it's common sense that Cineworld's business model would really disrupt the US market. I know they want to refurbish many of the Regal Theatres, but they could keep that to a minimum by first introducing fixed monthly fees for unlimited movies to bring clarity of revenue, and then start refurbishing more widely. Just my opinion
