ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Baghdad on Thursday to meet with his Iraqi counterpart Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani for talks aimed at resolving ongoing financial disputes.

“I’m in Baghdad to bring renewed certainty to this important relationship,” PM Barzani stated on X. “We must resolve our differences through dialogue and understanding to prioritize cooperation and economic growth.” He emphasized that the people of the Kurdistan Region “deserve stability.”

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has responded to a statement by the Iraqi Oil Ministry on the resumption of oil exports, saying it is ready to visit Baghdad next week.

Earlier, the Iraqi Oil Ministry had invited the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Natural Resources and oil companies to an emergency meeting to discuss the resumption of oil exports.

"We have been in favor of resolving the issue as soon as possible and exporting the oil through the world ports," he said.

"We have visited Baghdad several times and in December this year we met with the chairman of the parliamentary finance committee and the federal government committee in the three ministries of oil, planning and finance and the minutes were signed," he said.

"The committee last met on May 19 and 20 in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources. We are now waiting for the outcome of the meeting and are ready to visit Baghdad next week to resolve this issue," the statement said.

Mohammed Shia Sudan, the prime minister of Iraq said in a press conference that the regional government should hand over all its revenues and the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Financial Conservatives should look into the monthly list of the salaries of the region.

He pointed out that, the cost of exporting a barrel of oil in the region is $ 26 but in Iraq it is $ 8, Iraq is ready to start the oil of the region but the companies are not ready to start exporting oil.
