US close wk 4.24 Jan 2026 06:26
A mixed close on Wall St yesterday saw the Dow tumble 285 to 49,099 while the 500 & Nsdq gained 2 & 87 respectively. The Russell 2000 which has led the gainers board this week fell 28 to 1563.
Dow stocks were split 16 fallers to 14 gainers. The fallers were led down by Goldman off $36 to $919, Caterpillar & WD. Heading up Msoft put on $15 to $466 with Amazon & Nvidia close behind.
Over the week the Dow fell 260, the S&P was off 24, the Nsdq added 76 and the small caps were 7 points adrift. The Dow is forecast to open lower next week despite Trump saying the Nato deal will give him total access to Greenland.
Gold and Silver have been on a rollercoaster ride this year where prices are on track to record their bigest gains since 1979. The gold price has soared 60% hitting new highs of $4983 on Friday. At the same time silver hit $103 also an all-time high. US & UK Govt debt will encourage investors to stay bullish on gold & Silver.
European leaders welcomed the winding down of tensions with Washington over Greenland but were shaken when Trump cast doubts on Nato's commitment to the US. Trump claimed allied troops who came to America's aid after 9/11 stayed 'off the front lines' in Afghanistan. A ridiculous and insulting comment by Trump considering over 450 allied troops lost their lives fighting the Taliban. This will run and run as pressure is put on Trump to apologise for his crass and inaccurate comments.
