The hardest call....when to sell. Ideally one never would if the stock maintained its all round competitive advantage and the longer you hold the better you will do. I suppose there are a nos of reasons to sell....you need the cash....you find a better Co to invest in...competitors catch up and in bull mrkts when stock prices get bid up above the economics of the business which causes P/E ratios to go off the scale those would all be pointers to consider selling. Not sure any of those apply to G atm as the nos give us breathing space what with our unrealized gas asset going unrecorded. It's especially tricky with G having seen years of declines one naturally wants to ride the stock back up in the good times maximising gains and that brings into the equation... fear and greed, which of those two dominate your investment thoughts? There's never an easy answer or formula to selling shares especially in a good performing Co, a dog is easy to be rid of.....so don't sell unless and until you absolutely need the money. I know of one pis who has been banking gains all the way up from 140 as he readilly told me fear of losing was his main motivator as in the past he'd become too emotionally involved and that had cost him money. Morning all.
