New variant in China the cause
The superior growth advantage of XBB.1.5 has been well-documented by many colleagues.
Here I'll add some experimental data:
1) XBB.1.5 is equally immune evasive as XBB.1, but
2) XBB.1.5 has a much higher hACE2 binding affinity
Class switch towards non-inflammatory, spike-specific IgG4 antibodies after repeated SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination
https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciimmunol.ade2798
Here, we report that several months after the second vaccination, SARS-CoV-2-specific antibodies were increasingly composed of non-inflammatory IgG4, which were further boosted by a third mRNA vaccination and/or SARS-CoV-2 variant breakthrough infections. IgG4 antibodies among all spike-specific IgG antibodies rose on average from 0.04% shortly after the second vaccination to 19.27% late after the third vaccination. This induction of IgG4 antibodies was not observed after ****logous or heterologous SARS-CoV-2 vaccination with adenoviral vectors.
This isn’t a peer review but a publication of the trial in a journal. I suspect a proper review comes later.
Page 27 is probably the key page to look at with the graphs.

Excellent thread on what long term effects we are seeing from Covid. Things will get worse as people start being hospitalised/die from other diseases. We are seeing things like Strep A and RSV causing more disease currently in the news.
Impact of COVID infection on our immune system even after people are recovered including:
Missing naive T-cells
Exhausted T-cells
Loss of B-cell maturation
I’ve said it so many times corticosteroids are not always the best choice to treat people. The dampening down effect on the bodies anti viral/bacterial defences leaves people more susceptible to dangerous secondary infections.
It’s an important result from the trial that will help treatment choices going forward.

Florida will hold the medical establishment accountable by:
• Creating a grand jury to investigate mRNA shots & Big Pharma
• Investigating cardiac-related deaths tied to the mRNA vaccine
• Forming a Public Health Integrity Committee to oversee the medical establishment

For the people who have followed the Molnupirivir story. When it doesn’t quite work as promised.
Someone is loading up, question is who?

Rick has been busy, has some comments in this opinion piece in the NYT ‘Why Isn’t the U.S. Embracing This Pandemic Prevention Strategy?’ today.
There seems to be a coordinated play from certain players trying to influence funding.
You need to get out more if you think that's fun.
No one notice a board member has also retired? More like a replacement?
Have a read of this article and you will understand who Rick Bright is and especially his relationship with Trump at the beginning of the pandemic. Very enlightening read.

Rick Bright is a very senior medical figure in the USA, I'm guessing if this is a sponsored event his speaking fee won't be cheap :)
https://phys.org/news/2022-11-coffee-covid-.html
Scientists in Germany have shown in the lab that the coffee compound, 5-caffeoylquinic acid, inhibits by a factor of 50 the interaction between SARSCoV2's spike protein & the ACE-2 receptor on human cells.
A regular cup of filter coffee—in the laboratory setting, it comprises exactly 200 milliliters—contains about 100 milligrams of 5-caffeoylquinic acid. Experiments in the laboratory showed that 5-caffeoylquinic acid in this concentration is high enough to prevent the docking of the spike protein to the ACE-2 receptor—and therefore also inhibit the infection process.
As a next step, the findings on the interaction between coffee and the coronavirus will now be communicated to a wider research community. "Epidemiological studies could determine whether regular coffee drinkers become more often infected with corona or not," says Nikolai Kuhnert. Context and implications for long COVID could also be brought into view here.

Coincidences maybe :)
A few weeks back now I posted about Shionogi & Co attending ID week who also attended the SNG presentation. At the time you would think strange for a Japanese company to want to watch an SNG presentation. Could it be they were checking out the competition?
Also interesting was the Principal Investigator and Study Chair of the STRIVE trial attended the conference too doing their own presentation relating to HIV.
You would hope they bumped into each other :)
Nice we finally have confirmation of the trial starting. Really interesting end points that have been selected.
Hi Doc - You have missed off the 2nd paragraph after it referenced Sprinter trial completing.
When COVID-19 struck we pivoted IFN-beta into one of the first treatment trials for SARS-CoV2 infection. We completed this in under two months (published here). It showed a 72% reduction in risk of COVID-19 patients developing severe COVID-19. IFN-beta also drove faster recovery from symptoms. That led to a large-scale trial in over 100 centres worldwide, completing in autumn of 2021.
Our aim is to prevent anxiety, distress and death caused by respiratory infections. **IFN-beta remains central to this in our future work**. But we will also use the IFN-beta experience and our wider drug development expertise to build a continuous pipeline of new therapies that do exactly that.
****
The suggestion is further work with Interferon Beta after the Sprinter trial, not necessarily for Covid.
https://www.southamptonbrc.nihr.ac.uk/respiratory-allergy - Is a slightly better link which shows change of leadership but clear there is a positive SNG influence still at the top.
This is not SNG promoting their business this is a separate entity. UKs National Institute for Health and Care Research.
