Spread12 Oct 2012 11:40
The spread has not been as it would seem. When it was 0.8/0.95 yesterday, I had no trouble doing dummy buys at 0.825. The real spread was something like 0.75/0.825, as there were some sells below the ask. Don't know the logic of this play except that this morning our Mr(s) 500K was back and buying at 0.95, not that this has held. Today they have got more real, for good or ill, and now at 0.75/0.8. There is no interest in this share at the moment as we have no road to production clearly set out, nor funds to do it with.
The fantastic prospects, which we bought in to, are still there but have little value in today's markets. I was at the Proactive Investor presentations yesterday where Baobab were presenting on their Ruoni/Tenge pig iron project. I spoke to the Chairman and MD afterwards about our Monte Maunde JV and as we already know, the resource is great but they do not have the energy or funds to move it forward at the moment - all efforts are in getting pre and full feasibility studies done on the pig iron project.
I reckon they will be bought out by one of their big neighbours (Rio, Vale) before they get to production (aiming for 2016 but optimistic I think). They will then have the funds to develop their other projects like our JV. The question will be if we will have an income stream by then which will enable us to fund our share of the project or whether they will buy us out as we won't be able to move forward with it. We really seem to be in the hands of Taurus - I wish they would give us a hint.
