Indeed jam2morrow the question that should be asked is why Ganfeng having been involved with Thacker Pass by assisting Lithium Americas while at the same time developing their JV in Argentina took an interest in Sonora?

Ganfeng will have a very clear understanding of the quality and production costs from Thacker Pass and so that might be food for thought!

On the other hand we had that lunatic voted in as president on the united states so that might have been a factor - but Ganfeng have further invested in Sonora since the US November elections where I'm sure they could have taken an interest in Thacker Pass!

on the same page with you mr.james and as mentioned in the Peter Secker interview manufacturers are very particular with the environmental sourcing of their materials, there are a few reports being done on the lithium triangle commissioned by in particular European manufacturers.

Add to that the often repeated reference to battery grade of the highest quality being produced at Sonora and the fact Ganfeng have been running pilot plants there a full year before increasing their stake should be seen as a real seal of approval.

That paragraph is from your link but again is repeated elsewhere, Ganfeng have made further investments recently in SA brines but moderate and of course last year taking a bigger slice of Cauchari-Olaroz from Lithium Americas (I think that was a bailout) still I do believe Sonora has less risk to Ganfeng now than brines from an environmental aspect and is cost comparative.

I don't have much concerns around Sonora and EMH is flying so good all round - one niggly thing is geothermal brines possibly coming online in Europe claiming to be zero carbon lithium.

Indeed, I have been keeping an eye on Asianmetals and the signs are looking extremely positive @observer842 with real big investment plans and plant after plant being built - this isn't like the usual composed Chinese news dialogue:

Sorry to have alarmed anyone, if you don't have ownership of something it has zero value, Ganfeng raising cash to expand, US doing an assessment of supply chains, China instructed companies a year or two back to secure supplies, so is Ganfeng hungry enough for Sonora.

I also have some doubts that the lithium triangle can ramp up production including due to environmental concerns, Sonora in the words of Ganfeng can produce at a cost comparable with brines.

So now is a good time to make a decision with prices moving rapidly to purchase our JV's,

I don't know but is it possible that our JV will be worth zero in a few months because!!

Thanks MB always welcome to see where the tech and future demand is heading, I do wish the JLR board had listened to Tony Seba, one thing he said some time ago was stranded assets for car companies in ICE investments and news today that JLR are writing down £1.5bn together with the announcement they are seeking a platform partner does make me wonder how they will survive - this is classic disruption.
