I think it's been pointed out many times that sadly the majority of cancer patients that die do so from secondary cancers, not primary. Tissue biopsy clearly targets the initial area and patients are treated on that basis. The point is that in order for people to then die from a secondary cancer that has not been picked up until it's too late the seed cells will have travelled via the bloodstream.
So if a patient has no CTC's that's great and go ahead with treating the primary, no problem. But to ignore the chance of spotting , harvesting and studying any CTC's would be clinical negligence in my book.
