Neptune V is a 5-megawatt containerized electrolyser plant that offers highly efficient hydrogen production capacity. ITM and Guttroff are thus jointly starting a project from a whole range of market options, and further existing plans are to be jointly evaluated and advanced in the near future.

The companies did not disclose the value of the contract, but Guttroff received €5 million in funding earlier this year as part of the Bavarian electrolyser subsidy program to initiate domestic production of green hydrogen in the region.

Guttroff confirmed that the Neptune V plant is intended to ensure all possible forms of supply, including a filling station, including significantly expanding the company's own hydrogen fleet with further investments as early as mid-2025.

Yeah, when I read this morning, I got excited thinking we had just landed the 100 MW for the Wales RWE project or the BP Lingen project. Anyway! RWE have a 2 GW target over the next 5 years, and we’ve already been selected for 50%+ of their capacity so far. Securing 1 GW over the next 5 years will be great.

I’ve looked through BP’s press releases over the past year, and they haven’t announced a decision on the electrolyzer manufacturer yet. Given ITM’s continued expansion efforts in Germany, I have a feeling they could be in line for an RNS soon. This could explain today’s rise in their share price, along with RWE’s developments—but who knows for sure.

RWE has secured planning permission for a new plant in Wales, while BP has announced its final investment decision after receiving €125 million in funding from the German government. Both developments, happening today, highlight the accelerating momentum in the sector.

Given RWE has just received the long-awaited planning permission, I'd expect them to announce the supplier for the 100MW electrolyser quite soon—likely in the next few months. This would allow them to move forward with procurement and ensure the electrolyser is ready in time for the plant's expected startup in early 2027. RNS could land as early as the first 1/4 of 2025.

At £4.3 million, it produces green hydrogen on-site, making refuelling stations more self-sufficient and scalable. ITM recently sold a Neptune V to a refuelling station in Germany last month, showing that this technology is already being adopted.
