When you boil it all down. Therapeutics and AVA600 was AVCT's focus prior to COVID. To divert the limited resources AVCT had back then (and still do in all honesty) to building products to fight this strange new virus that nobody had any clue about, would have been a very rash move. Covid could have gone in a month, 2 months and it would have been a waste.
This had to be something worth doing and doing properly. It couldn't be done at the monetary or reputational expense of the wider business. The raise gave a bit of safety net on the monetary front but what went to market still had to be top notch to preserve the Affimer IP, which over that period we have seen has interest outside of COVid and it has materialised into revenue generating licensing deals.
What a lot of people don't see here is AS has actually very astutely run a business through a transitionary/transformational period without jeopardising what AVCT is fundamentally about or the balance sheet.
He's building a business step by step.....not madly chasing every avenue. IMO AS will have known Covid was here to stay and the potential longevity of the testing market long before any of us did. Hence, although frustratingly for many has meant delays, means we could be on the cusp of being integral to producing THE BEST test out there.
Talk about marketing for Affimers.....the exponential positive impact of getting that right is huge.
Investing is not just about making money - that's trading. Investors are more aligned to the fundamentals of a business. Look at who we have on board. They will have done their due diligence and know what potential this business has.
Hence we have 2 camps "My test is late and I haven't made money as quick as I though wah wah wah" and "yes its late but jeez it looks like its going to be the best one out there, which is great for the Affimer brand, should bring us plenty of additional licensing agreements and the revenues/big pharma can fund other avenues which are opening up nicely. Should steadily add value over time"
