SONGWE: THE GOVERNMENT expects to start the production of the world's rare gas Helium for the first time through the Helium One Global Company in the Lake Rukwa Basin, Itumbula area located in Kamsamba and Ivuna Wards in Momba District, Songwe Region.
Songwe Region Resident Mining Officer, Chone Malembo has explained this during a visit to the project area and said that what is currently awaited is the Government to issue an extraction license to the company after the completion of research that has shown the presence of the gas in the area.
Helium is a rare gas found in the world used in modern technology, health services, aerospace research and the defense sector, which until now the leading countries in the production of the gas are the United States, Russia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Algeria and now Tanzania.
For his part, the Manager of Research and Development of the Project from the Helium One Company, Emmanuel Ghachocha, said that earlier research conducted by the company in four wells in the area revealed the presence of helium at different levels between 4.4 and 7.9 percent depending on the type of wells drilled and that what is currently awaited is the signing of a contract so that production can officially begin.
