The interim supply measures will involve Gasol installing a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit in a port in the region and supplying regasified LNG from that vessel to pipelines for transmission to power hubs. In cases where it is a gas supplier to power projects, Gasol will also aim, in due course, to acquire minority equity positions in those power supply facilities.

Gasol's strategy is to develop its own gas reserves in the Gulf of Guinea and to supply this gas to power projects in West Africa. The Company is currently working to develop its projects and the necessary infrastructure in pursuit of this objective, in conjunction with its partners. Until natural gas reserves become available, Gasol is working on plans that will secure availability of regasified LNG as an interim fuel supply to support current power generation requirements in the West African region. Regasified LNG is used in Europe, the Middle East, China and Latin America as a cost effective means of delivering gas where pipeline gas is not available or shortages prevail. Gasol's regasification orientated supply activities to the West African region are intended as a shorter term measure, which will allow for more cost effective and environmentally friendly gas-fired power generation until such time as they can be replaced with secure supplies of low-cost pipeline gas.

Cairn Energy has reported that initial interpretation of the Tybalt appraisal well 211/8c-5 in the North Sea has shown little indication of the presence of moveable hydrocarbons from the well, prompting Valiant, the operator of the well, to suspend the well.

According to analysts at Jefferies, the results "confirm that AVEVA continues to benefit from strong demand in the oil and gas vertical, in turn supporting our double-digit organic growth estimate for FY13." Meanwhile, Merchant Securities said in a research note this morning that the figures were "surprisingly strong". Both brokers maintained their 'buy' recommendations for the stock. AVEVA pointed out that the biggest driver for growth has been marine-based oil and gas exploration, with "deep-water rig activity is at an all-time high".

AVEVA has been a notable success over the last five years and trades at a price to earnings ratio of 18 times (excluding cash). Some analysts have commented that these results needed to come in significantly ahead of expectations for the shares to rise given the already high valuation. They clearly did, with the stock up 12.2% at 1,661p in afternoon trade on Monday.

This company says the second half of the year was particularly strong, driven by organic growth of 15% over the same period in 2010/11. Adjusted profit before tax increased by 14% over the previous year to £62.3m, beating expectations of £60.94m. The adjusted profit margin was 32% (2011 - 31%) while adjusted basic earnings per share came in at 63.81p, again beating expectations of 63.55p.

The engineering software company, AVEVA, has reported record profits for the 12 months ended March 21st as the firm capitalised on growing demand from deep-water oil and gas exploration. AVEVA delivered revenue during the year of £195.9m, this was better than the consensus expectation of £192.04m and represented an increase of 13% against the prior year.

Back in March, Misys, a financial software developer, announced that it had reached a $2bn agreement on the terms of a recommended 350p-per-share cash offer by Magic Bidco, an investment vehicle indirectly owned by Vista funds. The company is still on track to exit the stock market by the start of June.

Misys's investors were given some good news on Monday when the High Court of Justice made an order approving the scheme through which Vista Equity Partners will acquire the UK financial software company. The hearing outcome enables the sale of Misys convertible bonds. The court now needs to confirm the associated capital reduction at a court hearing being held on May 31st.

"The near-term outlook for Viridor is likely to be a key focus with the UK back in recession. Management are expected to confirm that medium-term prospects remain on track, underpinned by a growing pipeline of long-term projects to drive future growth (e.g. 25-year contract for treatment of Glasgow's residual waste and preferred bidder in South London with many potential energy-from-waste plants in the pipeline)," Cook added.

Cook thinks Viridor's profits will be a little bit below last year at £71m, "due to a reduction in recyclate prices in weak economic conditions and higher bid costs resulting from increased activity on long-term projects, partly offset by initial contributions from recent acquisitions."

According to Charles Stanley analyst, Tina Cook: "SW Water is expected to deliver growth in underlying operating profit to £201m (FY11 £190m), driven by allowed price increases of 8% (3.4% real price rise plus RPI of 4.7%), offset by lower volumes, higher operating costs and a substantial increase in capital investment over the prior year. The business continues to perform strongly against the 2010-15 (K5) regulatory targets."
