So by your logic, next time I need a new cinema system, I will just burgle the neighbours, and it's ok, because criminals do it anyway!
I dont think I could do it. I'm a git, true, but I'd feel like I was stealing from idiots.

I actually love passing the time with more sensible coppers. They generally have a pretty good view on life and a bloody good sense of humour. I'm old school though, I think sod the motorways............I know that the argument is that you catch more criminals through traffic violations than any other way.............. But if they took the police off the roads, put them back on the beat and allowed them to give a sharp clip around the ear to kids and teenagers who were out of line, you might not have quite so many bad guys to catch in the first place because they'd grow up with a little more respect.
Lol, they kept trying to get me to say how fast I was going, I just kept saying 'a little over 70 I think' and left it at that. Imagine my shock to find out I was going so fast!! Lol, the other funny one was......it was very dark on that stretch of the M60, they said about my awareness............in fact they had not pulled me over, I had spotted them in my rear view mirror..................and pulled over myself. So I said, well I cant have been concentrating that badly, I saw yu behind me! But to be honest I wouldnt have taunted them if it were not for the fact that they seemed as though they had just come out of an assertiveness seminar! Lol, they were funny.
Sounds like a bloody shower of shiite. How long ago was this roughly? NKOTB insults? Tsk tsk.
Lol, I had a long discussion in the back of a police car the other week about who they should have pulled over, me doing 90 in the third lane, ot the guy in front I was tailgating who was doing 70, and sat in the lane despite the other two being empty. I was able to have the chat because they didnt have their camera installed!! lucky me!! They asked me stopping distance..............and I replied, do you mean stopping distance for a 1950's car with wire drum brakes, when the book was written? or stopping distance for a car with ABS, diferential DSC and every other gadget? I also suggested that even if the van rolled over right in front of me, I would still have been able to brake successfully before he came to a halt. Lol, I SOOOOOOOO enjoyed it. They were furious and told me if they had the camera in I'd be in court the following morning.
Well, following from below, if the supermarket I work for received a bill from a subcontractor on health and safety grounds, they would pay it, then they would conduct the spanish inquisition with us as to why our sites were being run badly!!! It would be us to blame.
Working for Aldi is one of the best jobs I have ever had. They ask can we shorten a program, we explain we cant, and why, and they apply no pressure more than asking the question. They hold meetings on very site regularly, during which health and safety is looked at. And best of all, they NEVER screw a subby like some do, they pay every time on time. All they ask is that the subcontractors are also proactive in safety and efficient ways of working, and that they adhere to their contract. Brilliant company to work for.
Are you on a JCT with your contracts?
The company I work for do, yes. Though I do not work for them directly. They are VERY proactive in health and safety and have their own officer auditing our sites.
You really need to question your attitude to your health and safety. Look at it this way, your RAMS is YOUR shiled against injury. If you go on a site and it is unsafe, take out your digital camera, take pictures of the unsafe areas. Leave site, then send your bill in to the QS for an aborted visit on safety grounds. You will almost certainly be paid so long as you have done your best on site to start your works and given them chance to rectify the problem. If you are signed up to a JCT you cannot be kicked off the contract for this, and you will be netitled to payment.
The company I work for isnt that large, shy of £50m a year turnover. We are actually a management company, so we dont even see all of that money......but those are the budgets we control. ALL of our work is competetively tendered from a preferred subcontractor list which is added to periodically, though there is a national agreement now in place, this is being shelved because the framework was drawn up in a time of rising prices, now it doesnt make so much sense. But each of the companies signed into the angreement had to competetively tender for the works. I completely disagree that we dont care in the industry, one of our own operatives had a minor accident, there is no WAY this guy would ever take it further, but he was still visited at work the next day by me to give him a telling off for not wearing his goggles. I DO happen to think that if we go to the lenghts we do to avoid hazards, and point out the ones remaining, and someone just wont listen...........they alsmost deserve what they get. But I'll tell you now, when that accident a few months back happened, and I went to site to look at it, I was quite literally sleepless that night and for a couple after I was quite unsettled at the thought someone could have potentially died on a site under my responsibility. It isnt ALL pounds shillings and pence, and whilst we are quite firm, we are fair, and still human beings! I object!
You're right, but there is a limit to what you can do. If someone choses to disobey the rules which have been pointed out to them, what more can you do? We had an accident a few months ago.........a cladder fell from a scaffold. only half a story, but onto concrete and it had the potential to be fatal. The cladder had asked the scaffolder to remove a barrier, and unbelievably, he did! Neither are allowed on any of our sites now.
