The company I work for isnt that large, shy of £50m a year turnover.
We are actually a management company, so we dont even see all of that money......but those are the budgets we control.
ALL of our work is competetively tendered from a preferred subcontractor list which is added to periodically, though there is a national agreement now in place, this is being shelved because the framework was drawn up in a time of rising prices, now it doesnt make so much sense. But each of the companies signed into the angreement had to competetively tender for the works.
I completely disagree that we dont care in the industry, one of our own operatives had a minor accident, there is no WAY this guy would ever take it further, but he was still visited at work the next day by me to give him a telling off for not wearing his goggles.
I DO happen to think that if we go to the lenghts we do to avoid hazards, and point out the ones remaining, and someone just wont listen...........they alsmost deserve what they get.
But I'll tell you now, when that accident a few months back happened, and I went to site to look at it, I was quite literally sleepless that night and for a couple after I was quite unsettled at the thought someone could have potentially died on a site under my responsibility.
It isnt ALL pounds shillings and pence, and whilst we are quite firm, we are fair, and still human beings!
I object!
