RE: Living pension30 Apr 2019 12:49
Snige, it is a total disgrace the way some Pensioners are having to live.I have close family members you do a little part-time work in trying to ease their burden but some of the horrific stories they tell me makes my blood boil.In the interest of political fairness I must report they say Labour was little better. Also those with hard earned savings see them being eroded due to pitiful interest rates and inflation.Widows and widowers seem to get it toughest. We can all help, i believe in befriending someone hard up,empty larder, old clothes even unable to heat their homes and replace light bulbs are clear give aways.
On top of giving them essentials, inform local charities they don`t due to pride, ring social services.Get on to bodies to ensure they get their entitlements.Contact past employers etc.Recently or rather a few months back I contacted a banking union to see if they could help a widow of a past member of theirs for 50 years. They sent a branch representative to see her, I was in attendance, he gave her a cheque for £250 and promised a delivery of coal, since delivered, plus an ongoing £50 per month. The change in her since being able to live as a human should be able to is a joy to behold.
I like many hear do not need financial help, but little things can be so meaningful.Churches too are willing to help but remember these are proud people and suggest rather than press them.
I do very little and am humbled by the generosity of others.Should the politicians do more? This is an area for further debate, but not by me.
