I’m concerned that if the deal goes through and we are trading in dollars on the H&L website for this stock then if I want to sell the exchange rate cost will be included in the sale which make the deal even worse.

I’ve held for a long while collecting the divi as been great while I was in negative territory as I had bought at a higher price. Recently I bought a lot more in the middle 120s which brought down my break even to 140. It’s nice to know now that not only have I increased my dividend income as well as being up a small amount in share value.

I would get in this week on SQZ if you’re looking to buy. Mercuria have a deal that runs out this weekend on not being able to bid for SQZ for the last 18 months. From Monday onwards they can bid.

The company’s pre tax loss widened to GBP 111.1 million in the first half of 2024 from GBP 53.4 million a year ago.

Once the figures above change to a profit then this will increase the share price.

I live in hope as I have a lot of shares.

Edward. With buy backs this share will keep going sideways or down whilst this buy back goes on if your happy with this then that’s fine.

The only rise will be when the company makes a decent profit not because of buy backs.

I used a paragraph from your post on the IPO website because I was posting on the site that the continued buybacks had a negative effect on the share price & then the buy back brigade came out against me. I’m a sure though that this does occur and am happy that you can see the same as I do. Hope you didn’t mind me using your copy.

Let’s hope ONT get bid after the 5th October when the bid agreement ends and I’ll be happy to see what this does to the IPO price.

On the L&G share chat board - GeneralLevy- has written this about buybacks.

“Plenty of shares with share buybacks and noticed whilst the buyback takes place the share price seems suppressed and recovers after it is finished-absolutely no idea why that would be but I’ve noticed on numerous occasions.”

He has noticed this over the last 20 years.

ONT recently had figures come out another loss but the future is bright plus there low share price means that big Pharma companies are able to bid for this highly prized asset.

There is no reason to link ONT to IPO in share gains.

I think that I would rather neither at the moment as 30 mill could be added to the balance sheet.

A few years of belt tightening will eventually help the share price if the company makes more profit. I don’t mind the share going down again providing the longer term projection is up.

US possible reduction of .50 tomorrow. Thursday U.K. .25 reduction. Friday could be Cala sale announcement then there’s the divi next week.

The price a couple of years ago when dividends were being paid was 55-70 per share.

Then there were about 40 or less companies being invested in, now there are 68.

But IPO did have a share in ONT which kept the shares in a good way which was eventually sold when ONT went down in price.

IPO still seems to think its share are undervalued so there answer is buy backs. The historic share price shows hasn’t helped.

The question should be what the price be now if dividends were being paid twice a year.

Yes the rise has been because the 1/2 year financials were due today. Whilst the buy back has been going on there has been a steady reduction of the share price to 35.65 at its lowest.

These buy backs have not helped the share price which fell to below 40p in the last few months.

It would far better to go back to offering a dividend like they used to before this craze of buy backs. This would get more people buying the shares which in the long run providing the company does nothing silly will increase the share value.

I am up on shares I bought in my ISA through shares bought recently but down on my fund acc by 10p as they were bought a coupe of years ago. I don’t think there’s a 10p rise in this share unless some miracle cure or new invention comes good in investments that they hold.

Bots. If the deal is rejected and you think that GTE is such a good way to go do you think in this case that GTE will increase there offer?

Oldbut. Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll definitely add MNG to my portfolio but not until next year providing the government still allow a 20k investment in my ISA. Or if one of my others are hit by government actions then I’ll sell and get MNG.

My portfolio has no expensive shares like AV as I tend to keep my investments under 2.50 per share but having looked at the return on AV I might have a change of policy.

I’m a dividend investor and these shares just 5 of them that give me an extra 10k a year free of tax because they’re all in my ISAs. LGEN-ABDN-ASHM-SQZ- VOD. The last two could be in jeopardy because of government action and management decisions.

I’d be interested in any other recommendations that people have.

Roble. I agree with your last comments. I should have put in my message to Ekie that he needs to make his own decision, of course my reasoning of an upturn in price in the next 10 days may not happen but all my other shares that I hold always seem to go up when the divi payment is due. Plus as I commented we should get a small bounce from the interest rate reductions.
