Hi 19th hole. I think there's room for both. Certainly the PoC, point if care approach has time and location benefits over PCR (not needing a lab opens up offshore, remote, and all sorts of site based applications)

@mrindia, bit of a correction, the aihl is already ce-marked and indeed in PHE framework I believe. I'm sure you know, but not an 'ear product' (PoC test to detect genetic susceptibility to hearing loss caused by aminoglycosides (antibiotics) in infants before they are administered. These antibiotics often have to be given at short notice to a substantial number of infants annually. It's a really good development. See @PALOH_study etc.)

It should be noted that despite a certain poster's (the one with the !!!s and ???s) 'views', AIHL is due release and afaik already in use in Greece, and Military pathogen tests are as far as we saw in US DoD proposed budget (anyone else seen more on that?). (ref HCV we know more broadly work by organisations addressing HCV has been hit by pandemic, and the (Australian?) lab working for WHO struggled with the verification (ref presentation) for kit so looks like that last is on a slow burn whilst both those issues play out)

Sausage, I would note that no one sane was expecting another cov PoC RNS IMMEDIATELY after the last two (one less than a week ago). It (and AIHL) could however be today, this week, or Jan. I certainly am not predicting.
