Association with an Apple product aside, if the theory turns true then having a product of this calibre out in the market will do wonders for the sensors and therefore the dots inside.
600-650g quoted on their website; https://www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/specs/
Bicycle helmets can weight up to 400g so it doesn’t sound that heavy in comparison; assuming the weight of the ‘specs’ is counterbalanced by the back of the strap.
See troublesomes calc… the dots wouldn’t shift the scale by milligram.
@daz I’m not sure dots are heavy enough to factor in the overall weight calculation for a device like the VP 😂
My vision is that Nanoco can become the 3M of dots. If (and it's a big if) these sensors from STM take off, and are picked up by their customer base en masse, then Nanoco can ride on the coat tails.
Troublesome – I've tee'd you up nicely there for a quip about glue, tape or stickiness.
All this tells me that Nanoco’s BoD are going to have to think very carefully about the return. If, for example, they know that news is coming regarding orders, deals or confirmation of Vision Pro link (is or isn’t true) it would see them coming under fire for making a tender offer above/below what it could/should have been… Safer to issue a straight dividend as it has no relation to the share price and therefore can’t be deemed in favour of one party or another?
Thanks Nanonano - shame! Wondered if there might have been a link with the licensing agreement Nanoco signed with POE last year.
I was mindful of that, but reading the article, it sounded like a new application/method of combining QD and LED that would be in direct completion with Samsung’s offering… above my intellect to understand the difference, but someone else on here surely will!

Not sure anything about this has been posted yet… where did Sharp get their dots?
@piratepete would that not be a moot point though if (as some have suggested) the share price drops ex-divi?
They have to hold the shares a further 2 years AFTER they’ve vested so they’ve a while to wait; as far as I’m aware options won’t count for dividends.
Regards volume; the RNS stated that the JDA and Gen-2 materials were in-line with FY23 non-license fee income and would underpin what they're already expecting? That doesn't sound to me like they're expecting things to take off rapidly this FY.
Nice find Nano.
“ The VD55G1 sensor will be found in devices such as AR/VR headsets, personal and industrial robots, drones, barcode readers, and equipment relying on biometrics and gestures, embedded vision, or scene recognition. The global shutter camera sensor will be especially useful in applications where near-IR sensing is important and scenes with movement requiring no shutter artifacts.
STMicro VD55G1 is sampling now, but it’s still at the “preview” stage and pricing is not available. We won’t have to wait that long before seeing it integrated into modules and products as mass production is scheduled to start in March 2024. Further information may be found on the product page and in the press release.”
So could this mean Apple has first mover advantage with a version of this sensor developed with STMicro?
As others have said, if this sort of sensor finds its way into gadgets and gizmos of all kinds then the scale of dots required will be off the chart.
No surprise given Apple has been pushing Disney+.
From what I understand it’s far from the usual box shopping exercise in that the headset needs fitting (different head band options) and then there’s the prescription lenses that need configuring/ordering… like a visit to Specsavers (for those that need glasses).
Large trade went through this afternoon; 3.5m shares. Institution loading up ahead of proposed return of capital or someone with the inside track on something else perhaps?
No doubt the apple rumour mill will step into overdrive the closer the launch gets. All well and good (for Apple); unless something materialises that confirms our dots are inside it somewhere then I'm not going to get too excited.
Thanks Kooba; that would also explain the resolution to reduce the notice period from 21 to 14 days to speed up the process of announcing and acting on such a thing
So by my layman's reckoning; the resolution at the AGM to allow shares to be bought back by the company would allow them to do so up to 10% of the total shares issued (maximum of 105% of the price). At the current price, that would only be £6m worth; so the majority of the return to investors would be a dividend?

Page 5: "Resolution 14 authorises the Directors to purchase up to a maximum of 32,441,872 Ordinary Shares, representing approximately 10% of the Company’s issued Ordinary Share capital (excluding treasury shares) as at 10th November 2023, and provides that the maximum price per Ordinary Share payable on any exercise of the authority shall be the higher of: (i) an amount equal to 105% ..."
If it turns out the dots really are destined for the Vision Pro then Samsung may wish they had bought Nanoco out when they had the chance.
