It all sound a bit too good to be true; however, if Trump has pulled this off without firing another shot then you have to say it’s win all round, and let’s hope the innocent Iranian are not subjected to any punishment….

The Financial Conduct Authority has unveiled a new short-selling regime, easing administrative and reporting requirements for such investors.

The U.K. regulator said the “clearer and simpler” rules will “keep the market fair.”

Short sellers, such as hedge funds and other investors, aim to profit from the decline in a company’s value, a practice often criticized by other market practitioners and policymakers.

The U.K.’s financial watchdog has eased restrictions on hedge funds after relaxing rules on short selling, and slashing administrative and reporting requirements.

The shift marks a major step-change in the way the Financial Conduct Authority regulates investors who bet against the value of companies, and comes as part of a broader U.K. push to cut red tape.

The FCA, which oversees U.K. financial services firms and markets, said Thursday its new framework provides “clearer and simpler” rules on short selling.

Short selling — a core component of many hedge fund strategies — involves investors betting against a particular stock or security, with the aim of profiting from a decline in its value.

The practice has often come under fire for destabilizing markets and accelerating sharp sell-offs during bouts of extreme volatility and pushing vulnerable companies into distress. But the FCA said shorting techniques play a crucial role in facilitating price discovery, liquidity, and risk management in financial markets.

Under the new framework, which takes effect July 13, the FCA will now publish aggregated data showing the overall size of net short positions in each company — a major departure from current rules that identify individual short sellers.

By removing the requirement to publicly name individual short sellers, the FCA’s new anonymized, aggregated disclosure model eliminates what the industry sees as reputational and strategic risk faced by short sellers. It allows hedge funds to operate more freely without exposing their strategies or triggering market backlash, copycat trades, or short squeezes.

U.K. investors subject to the regime will now benefit from a “more workable timetable” for short position disclosures, the FCA said, easing compliance costs for the U.K.’s hedge fund industry, particularly smaller and emerging firms.

“These changes give firms clearer rules and cut administrative burdens, while ensuring we have the information we need to keep the market fair,” said Jon Relleen, director of infrastructure and exchanges at the FCA.

“It is smarter regulation in action.”

and yet the UK is responsible for less than 1% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. In 2024, the UK was ranked 20th in the world for CO2 emissions, contributing around 0.74% of the global total. The UK has reduced its emissions by over 50% since 1990, a deeper cut than other G7 nations and yet we pay the highest energy costs for households / businesses, Miliband needs to go and give his head a wobble. I understand you have pioneers but this does not make sense when we are importing a resource that we have in abundance.

The markets are on a knife edge , UK is not getting off lightly, I was reading recently that energy firms want to give free electricity to people if they use it on sunny days to free up space on the grid, lol, not long ago the Gov stopped fuel payments yet now we have energy surplus, it’s telling me just how many and how far families have cut back on energy usage! If we can cut back that much, can you imagine the cutbacks families, people will be making as prices rise in other sectors. this once great nation is a shadow of itself, our defence budget is that of a few organised crime gangs it is pathetic, housing is poor, services are costly, food prices are rising...

The Volume on the DOW had been declining since the initial bounce from the recent low. The confirmation of 50MA 200MA crossover, Death Cross on the 13 April, is probably phase one of this downward trend. Although the DOW had returned decent profits since that low, and although still to be confirmed, a Fakeout is looking more of a contender than a Breakout.

Although long term damage is already done to the UK economy, but yet to unfold, the continuation of the downturn on the DOW will have an impact across UKX .Any breakdown in talks or acts of war escalate then as we have seen it slides quicker than it glides….

No matter what happens I fully expect the UK to enter recession this year. I know many businesses who are already hurting and feel helpless as the UK faces biggest hit in growth forecast in the G7!

Keep that powder dry, this is only just getting started, the War has not even begun to have an effect in the UK, most people only see it as we’ve had fuel rise and had to wait in a queue and whilst that had been damaging it’s only the beginning, lots of price rises to come.
