Gordon Stein, CFO of CleanTech Lithium, explains why CTL acquired the 23 Laguna Verde licenses. Watch the video here.
i have only posted 2/3 times in 8 years.
during my time, i've doubled my exposure.
i hold a reasonable bag. i continue to be a believer.
for me and my brother, this started as "a search for stalin's oil".
this was a fable with some substance - we thought it led to mongolia.
we found matd and here we are.
my rationale for still being here:-
we now have oil.
federal and state authorities think we should extract it.
regional authorities will be on board when they sign the lp and pay the 10 families the money already sent.
we will be a low-cost producer
the mongolian government are 50% owners and have an expensive new refinery requiring oil
china is next door and imports all of its oil via precarious waters which would close in a war
russia is ****ed (no western tech, frozen pipes, no markets) so the oil will be needed in the east
we have local knowledge and will probably secure 2 more blocks
we have more know-how in mongolia than anyone ( i think we know which blocks to bid on)
we have exposure to great renewable opportunities and this could be our biggest winner
politics and conspiracies aside, this is still a high-potential low-cost asset.
get in/get out. whatever!
i'm not here to debate anyone. if i'm wrong, i'll own it. that's all.
good luck.
Agree. China imports 85% of its energy and food. Its housing market is screwed. Its demographics are scary. Its labour costs are rising at a world record rate. They are already deindustrialising. Never mind that they are surveilling their people, investing militarily and spending squillions on "coved zero". Russia looks like they are going to be less helpful than thought. China is desperate for near-to-country energy! No brainer. China will get involved but MATD is not necessarily a price taker. IMO. BTW: Why would you invade Taiwan and risk those sanctions which would hit China 10X worse. They need to focus on the economy and staying in power.
Very rarely post here. Here is where I think we are strategic and logistical/operational:-
On the brink of shifting from an explorer to a producer with significant commercial potential
Many further and potentially large discoveries are possible based on prior drilling, seismic, etc
Very low (ridiculous) market cap (36.5M pounds)
A fully funded exploitation/exploration program with future cash flows looking awesome
Operating in a difficult environment from a reg and climate perspective
Ukraine may just bring Mongolia in more quickly as a geostrategic play for China (Russia will be "on the nose for a long time and their hydrocarbon industry is heading for a long winter and Russia a world of pain for the citizens)
A good driller for our harsh conditions wanting in to either manage our drilling or farm in or both (DCE)
That gives us the potential to scale and leverage our drilling activity and exploration - with strong prospects of acceleration
Government equity and support
An experienced Board with a successful track record and less prone to the endemic corruption in Mongolia
A volatile history for investors (a bit like Bitcoin) where volatility is actually an asset but also a massive frustration for some
This stock, in terms of volatility, has traded 1.8p - 2 pounds in the last 5 years
Frustrations with bureaucracy - licences, permits, drill contracts - are all part of the journey IMO. Chill on this stuff. We'll get there.
It was news-driven in the past (and still is somewhat) but is more results dependent soon
A cynical and sometimes very negative, resentful, follower investor community, some of whom cannot sell yet
Others have been maneuvering for take-off - looking forward
9% up in last year, 45% in last month (but still 84% down on last 5 years)
Let's look at the facts - this is a potential ripper. Timing - Soon, so let it bake and stop opening the oven.
Full disclosure - been here 5+ years and have a couple of million shares now averaged below 4p. First bought in at 10p. I know people who bought at more than a pound who are now below the 10p weighted average and keeping the faith, staying hopeful and even positive.
DYOR, but respect others even if your view is different. My own biggest bummer with MATD is that I find this chat hard to read because of all of the personal stuff, point-scoring, and childish conduct. I'm fine with criticism but let's play the ball.
Are we there yet! Nearly.
I've been here a while. I'm sitting on a fair few. Never posted but thought I'd chip in.
What I've noticed:-
This MATD story is developing nicely. Better to be in than out. I'm an investor, not a trader. I believe in this project.
It takes time to develop an oil explorer in a third-world virgin territory into a producer. High risk and reward!
This country is new at this so it's slower RE governance and approvals/permits
Mongolia is all in - building a refinery, 50% MATD Share
The pandemic has slowed things and that is frustrating - access to drillers, etc.
Oil has been discovered and an exploitation licence has been secured - commercial quantities on the books
The market cap Vs the value of the already-discovered oil is silly. A huge upside is possible.
There are very big deposits anticipated in Blocks 20 and 5 and we are working to get drillers in and on it
The climate is a factor (Hot and cold) and this disrupts the activity on the ground
There is an experienced CEO and solid Board
Potential high volume low-cost extraction opportunity
The global market is heading for an oil shock due to Russia
A refinery is being built which needs oil and assists Mongolian self-sufficiency. Bid bad neighbours have been Mongolia's nemesis.
There are some frustrated investors who keep opening the oven and yelling that the cake is not ready.
The smart money is playing the long game. The longest part of that is well behind us. This thing will take -off.
Overall I think this is going to be stage 1 transformation for this Company and next year's stage 2.
Well done all long term holders. You will be rewarded.
I don't post here usually. Too snippy and unpleasant, from time to time, for me. I have lots of shares.
I've been a HODL'er for 5 years or so. "The Ox is slow but the earth is patient" (Confusious).
I'm overall very positive about what is building here. I'm an investor, not a trader.
The story from my POV so far: We found good quality oil in terms of extraction costs and margins and flow, there are more exciting prospective drills to happen, we have government support and even investment, we have the first exploitation licence in Mongolia for 30+ tears, and we are right next to the hungriest oil market in the world, a refiner is being built. Local oil is environmentally better than the current supply chain.
Here is a clip of the oil shock in China right now. The Party would love an oil source not tied to the broken global supply chain that is driving inflation and supply shocks. There is going to be social disharmony if the CCP doesn't fix the energy shock hitting the country right now. That is their covenant with the Han Chinese and it is existential.
Check it out ... Hang in there Matadors.

Good for MATD - an obvious option is for PetroChina to farm in. MATD needs control of the ownership though.
Let's see!
This may fizz but probability of a hit across 6 drills based on best science available (3D,2D,
geology, expertise) is 90% plus. We are talking huge prize vs genuine risk that this will not materialize. Nonetheless it's a risk/reward calculation. My view is to spread my investments but invest here - a mindset to lose all I invested but knowing that this is unlikely. We are talking 10%-30% capital loss vs 10X plus gain. I have quite a few investments. This is my highest reward/risk calc and well worth a try. Could be life changing. The numbers are frightening!
