RE: Easter fun12 Apr 2020 16:25
Good afternoon all, I have been away from the keyboard as my old Panasonic TV bit the dust and I had previously hoped that I could salvage it, I managed to download from the States a 186-page repair manual for $11 which gave me all the various voltages to look for and effect repair, I was hoping for a power supply problem that I would be able to fix but unfortunately, all the various voltages were correct and the fault I eventually traced to the main AV board, this part is unavailable new, and second hand as rare as hen's teeth(!). Even if I could have found one it would have required the original configuration settings stored on the EPROM from the original AV board to be shifted across to the new AV board and as that board was totally dead and fried, no chance, so out came the credit card and after lot's of hunting on-line reviews made my choice and purchase on the John Lewis web site as 5-year guarantee thrown in.
Purchase attempt no1 resulted in me forgetting to add the Sony 10% discount code, so a quick call to JL resulted in no help and informing me to cancel my order and re-order it, so I did, purchase attempt no2 went to plan and I included the 10% discount code this time and got an order acceptance and delivery date, great I thought, later that day I get an email saying that due to me failing some bizarre security check JL had now canceled my order and thanked me for my custom, WTF, rather disgruntled I contact JL again and complain, why was my order just struck off, why did you not contact me if there was a problem, no comment, but some vague remark that the money was not forthcoming from my credit card company, of to the credit card company to find that when JL canceled my first order they sat on my money for two days before refunding it to my account so when I placed order no2 I went over my credit limit, great so on to order no3, now that I try to order the TV with the 10% off voucher code, it says I have already used that voucher code and it can not be used again, getting agitated now, back to JL who just state it was a one time use voucher code, their only advice was to order it under another email address and as a guest and not a JL acount holder, that did work and the delivery date was fowarded along with the vat recipt, several update texts later I was informed of my 2 hour delivery time slot that I had paid extra for and an update that due to COVID-19 they could not deliver into my home but would drop it off in the street or doorstep, Oh well, my delivery time slot was 11 am to 13:00 pm, whilst showering at 08:00 am the door bell goes and it is my JL TV delivery 3-5 hours early, luckly the delivery guys were very accomadating and at least carted the TV upto the front door and pushed it through the front door way and into the hall, at least it was in the house and I could shut the front door...The saga to be continued in part 2,,,,,
