This is a good little video about VMS ore deposits and also a reminder that there is probably still much more to be discovered at Parys Mt. The video also reminds us of the metal deposition sequence in such deposits. https://youtu.be/lp27ORG3u5I?feature=shared Did the company ever drill any exploration holes from the subsurface workings?
SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall are giants.
From Wikipedia
SSAB "SSAB is the largest steel sheet manufacturer in Scandinavia, with its blast furnace, coking plant, and steelworks located in Luleå and its rolling mills and coating plants in Borlänge"
LKAB "(December 2023) Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara Aktiebolag ( LKAB) is a state owned Swedish mining company. The company mines iron ore at Kiruna and at Malmberget in northern Sweden. The company was established in 1890, and has been 100% state-owned since the 1950s."
"LKAB's chief assets are among the magnetite orefields of northern Sweden. Its corporate headquarters are in Luleå and the main production sites are in Kiruna (Kiruna Mine) and Malmberget, close to Gällivare."
Vattenfall "Vattenfall (then called Kungliga Vattenfallsstyrelsen or Royal Waterfall Board) was founded in 1909 as a state-owned enterprise in Sweden. [9] [10] From its founding until the mid-1970s, Vattenfall's business was largely restricted to Sweden, with a focus on hydroelectric power generation." Underground pump storage has been mentioned in previous posts, so Vattenfalls involvement in Hybrit is interesting. So we have mention of Grängesberg for use in pumped storage and hydrogen storage. And we have major Swedish businesses looking at these solutions in Grängesberg for the production of green steel.
This maybe all totally unconnected with AYM's share of assets in Sweden, but I'm certainly happy to have shares in AYM after this research. DYOR. No investment advice intended.
Hybrit - " SSAB, LKAB and Vattenfall are making a unique joint effort to change the Swedish iron and steel industry fundamentally. Under the name HYBRIT, we are working together to develop the first fossil-free steel." https://www.hybritdevelopment.se/en/
Hydrogen at Grängesberg was recently mentioned in a post. I came across this, Grängesberg is mentioned in connection with mass storage of hydrogen in underground caverns for use in green steel production. Extremely interesting and a must read, this sounds very exciting. See https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1674775522000774
Sweden and Europe are desperate for high grade ore. As the new electric and hydrogen furnaces increase in numbers around the world demand will rocket for the 70% grade product. And remember we have the Apatite and REE, which are additional resources beyond the iron.
Where did this hydrogen power plant for Grängesberg idea come from? I know about a pump storage scheme for when the mine has finished operation, but seen nothing about hydrogen power plant. Hydrogen would be for the steel maker not the miner, unless they are planning on an eco furnace in Grängesberg using ore direct from the mine with zero transportation cost.
This is an excellent report "Understanding the high-grade iron ore market" a couple of years old, but very informative. In PDF format https://pearlgulliron.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Understanding_the_high-grade_iron_ore_market_Fastmarkets.pdf
Some idea of current price in this article "DR magnetite concentrate is US$167 per tonne CFR China" https://m.au.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/cyclone-metals-a-step-closer-to-producing-lowcarbon-lowcost-steel-component-following-positive-test-results-3063306 quite a premium over the basic ore.
Looking at the charts here https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/iron-ore it looks like iron ore cargoes with a 63.5% iron ore content will be way above £125 for a while. But these prices are for low grade ore. The ore that was produced by Grängesberg is over 70% so is a premium product that is required for the new electric and hydrogen furnaces. Can anyone find the current and historic prices for 70+% ore?
You are heading into your scientific field. In the case of drugs we now supposedly have trials that catch problems before they happen in humans. The quality of trials in 1960 was not the same as now. Tobacco has been smoked for hundreds of years, the science understanding required to assess risk from smoking only came in some 80 years ago.
"Just so happens that we started measuring temperatures and recording the data at the coldest point in the last 10,000 years..." Nonsense, we have accurate data going back 1.5million years see this graph for past 800k years https://www.co2levels.org/ you will need to click button in top left of that page to see all the data, the look how much CO2 is above all previous peaks. This data is scientific fact taken from ice cores, if you deny this data, then you are not a scientist.
Oh and science is never settled...so when someone tells you to “follow the science “ that means be in our cult.
That's insane. Science is based on evidence and fact. It's not some insane religious cult. Who the heck is brainwashing you with this crap? My background is geophysics. In fact I helped discover some large oil/gas fields in the early 80's. Yep it's insane us scientists found the very stuff we are now telling you to stop using. The oil and gas industry is only there because of science, so on your reasoning supporting that industry is also a cult. I don't understand why some people can't cope with change. I mean if I can go from working in the industry finding oil and gas to asking for all oil and gas exploration and production to stop, because of my scientific understanding of the facts, I really can't understand why others can not cope with the same transition over a few decades.
"Climate change is real, it happens naturally as the earth goes through warming and cooling cycles."
That statement is correct, what you are ignoring and what really matters, is the additional burden created by humans on top of the natural cycle and the speed of change in the climate that will result because of that additional burden. At no time in the history of humanity have CO2 levels been so high and still rapidly increasing. This is levels way above any natural occurring cycles during human history. There are scientific papers from all over the world from major universities and leaders in science confirming this. So why do you deny the majority view of 99.95% of scientific experts in the field?
If you don't believe in climate change, then you don't believe in science. Without science you would have no internet, and you would not be able to communicate your anti science over the internet. Why don't you believe in the science behind climate change? The melting of Antarctica is real, but you will probably only believe it when the world's coastal cities are in the sea permanently under water. If you don't understand and/or deny the science here, https://www.youtube.com/live/SZwbfLmklvY?feature=shared then all I can say is you need to get learning and don't allow yourself to get brainwashed by the anti science groups.
