"manipulating the market"? nobody would admit to that although we know it happens often. The Buyback itself is manipulation, using company cash to prop up the price. Often done when shares need to be above a minimum price ie: to qualify the board for a bonus. Just tell the Plebs its for their benefit, that keeps them happy.

Roughly the share price is inversely proportional to Bank rates which in turn are derived from inflation rates. If inflation goes higher, the share price declines. This increases the % return.

Buy or sell can be determined by the expected inflation % and the returns on cash elsewhere.

ie: if Bank rate double then your shares lose half their value, if they go down you may be going up.

The question is inflation? UK is in deep doo-doo and by allowing third-world politicians & civil servants to rule us, things can only get worse. Think Africa, South America? Spending money you haven't got makes you popular until.....? Printing cash has always led to disaster, So we rename it MMT & tell the city its something new.

I would expect the company to keep its own stock of shares, if not they could in theory buy enough for the option demand.

If the latter, why not calculate the difference and pay it as cash? that should besimple & cheaper. If the company is feeling the pinch they might try MMT (Magic Money Tree) but that dilutes existing shares, is probably illegal unless you are the BOE who are above the law.

as i recall with british rail they issued a glowing rns which stated "all our troubles are over" causing the share price up to boom ~£14. a short time later the nationalisation was announced at the original flotation price of £2.60. this is an indication of what to expect. those who ignored the ****ty job will have had 25 years of unwarranted 'bonus' & pension payments, the crap then falls back on the taxpayer.

on flotation a utility boss was asked why his pay had trebled, he replied "last week i was running a utility co, this week i am head of a ftse 100 company". daylight robbery.

Either not too smart or the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. That gives little confidence in their future.

The qualifying ex-dividend date was 23rd March so maybe your purchase wasn't recorded in time to qualify for the payout however, in that case your shares should have been cheaper by at least 21.8p. If not then chase your broker.

Very trusting of you but you obviously were not around when BWY were ~£4.0 or when Wimpy did a runner to Spain only to get pushed out ten years later for building crap, finally joined TW only to have a price crash. As for quality..? nothing is more dodgy than builders.

Thanks for that, it's a warning we should have constantly ie: beware, if it looks to good to be true then it probably is. Aim was created to attract those that other markets refused and it does. There are good honest(ish) companies on AIM but in general they are not a long-term bet. Get in, Get out, stop f'ing about. It's Tony Bliar's creation, in his own image.

Thanks for that Ferret, it seems that I've had a lifetime of being screwed by Lloyds. My Lloyds a/c is a very low 5 figure number from the days when joe public was 100% cash. Did customer loyalty earn me any respect? dream on. Lloyds have lied, cheated and generally stitched up everybody apart from the long succession of directors, all foreign and at least one still 'on the run'. Had this been the USA then some would be breaking rocks now but as its UK they all go free with a golden handshake & pension to boot(no pun intended).

I shall dwell on this but given the state of England, Kazakhstan looks a healthy option!

Thanks to all for theanswers, in particular reckless ferret for chasing them however I seem to recall someone got that from them a couple of weeks ago ie: "later this week". We shall see. I was blaming a lack of staff but even AI should be able to alert us to an event.

Anyone else had problems with iweb? They say there are no corporate actions at POLY. The online web chat simply take your name & phone no and the online form for email is nowhere to be found. 'Complaints' simply refers to other phone numbers BUT as I'm deaf that is of no use to me. It seems that AI runs the whole show now but there are times when they need a kick. By this time they should know about POLY.

Agreed, a depeciating price either means production is (reported on the grapevine) about to drop or somebody is creating a buying opportunity. I hold for the divy simply because it SHOULD prop up the SP in our low interest, high inflation present disaster. Needs research but if research turns out to be based on duff gen, it is worthless.

Simple theory. As quality of food drops ever lower, then artificial flavouring must be added to encourage us to eat crap.

A friend(ramper) tipped this@ ~£2.00. As I have lost thousands on his previous tips, I ignored it. They later sold Land & a major part of the company then returned £1.0 per share to shareholders. Simple asset-stripping. Now hoping to sell remaining land and fishing for a buyer for what remains of the company. Speculative or fools gold?

Lets not forget that Lloyds were once £12 and a succession of dubious CEO's have helped reduce it to 'Coppers'. None of them stayed long and at least one is 'on the run'.
All this from the most respected FTSE company, how are the mighty fallen.

(2) Share buyback at 115 followed by a placing at 105 is either bad planning or simply robbing Peter to pay Paul(my name is peter).
(3) At least I have shares in Oaktree.

Keep in mind that even in pre-gloom times, JD only paid minimal divs so there is little support in a slump. Yes its a good company, well run and I use it as do most but the share price is a popularity poll. Keep a few but don't expect them to keep you.
