I`ll tell you what though and it may or may not apply..A share can be sold (by a market maker) when it is not in possession of those shares at a high price. It can do that as it has the power than to lower the price and then back cheaper. It is bought back in order that it can supply the share which it did not hold in the first place. Does that make sense.
