LOL. Fair point! I have read extensively on the company’s business model etc, just slipped my mind to consider whether or not withholding tax would apply. I would have bought anyway so no remorse!

Thanks SD235. I have signed a W8-BEN and hold a small opening position in DEC both in my SIPP and now in a non-ISA account. Since this is listed on the LSE I had expected withholding taxes not to apply.

I think Apple would find value in buying ITV. They are increasingly relying on services over devices for revenue and ITV would give them a boost in production capabilities.

Quiet thread but in case anyone is reading…Hoping for some advice. Currently researching TTE but haven’t purchased European shares before. Presumably TTE is listed on the Paris Bourse (as well as a US ADR) and it’s that listing I would purchase? Are there any tax implications to holding them in an ISA/SIPP, such as withholding taxes? Any help much appreciated as finding definite answers is proving harder than I expected!

What you are missing is that at 56p there was very limited liquidity. Liberty would not be able to buy the rest of the company at anything near that price. A significant premium to 56p would need to be offered. At the current share price of 70p, an offer a good way above 100p would be required to get any interest at all from most holders.
