RE: Japan Meetings3 Dec 2022 09:02
It's a dangerous game for TL to be playing, I think. They undoubtedly have a world class asset or 2 but to effectively threaten the operator of the one they seem to favour, seems a strange tactic. Shell, Conoco, Santos and Woodside ALL disagree with TL's wish to pipe the gas to their mainland yet they don't appear ready to budge one bit.
The outlay for the facility and the timeline for building it, in whatever form, are going to massively eat into the potential gains for all concerned. The threat of China getting involved is one stick being used on the Aussies but the Chinese aren't going to give TL billions out of the kindness of their own hearts!
I was aired this view quite a while ago and I still think it's the pragmatic way forward which is for TL to allow FLNG or pipe to Oz solutions to start generating serious funds from which they are on a much stronger footing to develop a facility in TL. I absolutely agree they should look to use their resources to better the lives of TL population by giving them skilled jobs (not just handouts). But I fear they are risking further delays and missing the boat altogether.
All my thoughts and I hope one of our more learned posters can put me straight but it's been playing on my mind so I thought I'd share.
Nice cheery reading for a cold Saturday morning!
Come on TL, you know what's right!
