Well the press conference was a waste of time - nothing we didn't already know .. UK expecting another wave later this year - surely its in our best interest to therefore keep our borders shut!!
In the meantime the US has advised against travel to 80% of countries worldwide including Europe - will we follow suit..
Looks like Japan and Canada are having a resurgence of cases .. and let the saga continue.
'With the new Indian variant of COVID-19 causing enough concern that Boris Johnson is planning to speak to the waiting nation, investors are wondering if international travel might once more be off the table'
?????
.. adds 16 countries to hotel quarantine list, inc. the USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Italy, Turkey and Maldives

The P1 variant (Brazilian) is sweeping USA & Canada - UK cannot afford to open up too quickly.

WHO’s warning on Thursday that it is the lockdown measures in place since Christmas, and not the vaccine rollout, that has supressed COVID-19 cases in the UK – a worry given the recent easing, and daily case numbers that, whilst falling, still number in the thousands.
Lessons to be learnt from Chile, who's vaccination programme was one of the highest and had fully vaccinated over 50% of the population when they opened up too quickly, with very little restrictions and to much relaxation .. now back in lockdown with ICU beds and healthcare on the brink.
The thought of UK opening international travel in May is just CRAZY .. with only 12% of its populations fully vaccinated.
"One of the prices we are going to have to pay for a bit of time to get more normality back domestically is not travelling overseas"

Although, I am hoping she will let me in for a few days in August .. (LOL)
jetstar23 - I also have lots of friends that work in the aviation sector which has been hard hit .. government support is seriously required to keep this sector alive.
It really is a tough call, as opening of this sector 'safely' and in a timely fashion is the key to keeping the virus at bay .. All IMO
Things will get better as soon as the other countries start catching up with vaccinations and we keep on top of any further mutations
Good Luck all
Few articles today saying the same ..

A lot of pressure from the travel industry to open up asap .. do they have their customers safety really at heart? ..
All tactics - Boris dangling the carrot to keep the airlines onside so he doesn't have to fork out extra funding .. he has a tough job! .. vaccinations and cases need to drop globally before any planning can take place.
@dusterinmong has this been published anywhere?
I have my suspicions that this will be the case and Boris will delay the announcement on the date we can travel internationally - Mid May could be the date as this is when he makes the next official announcement on easing of lockdown rules.
Not sure how overseas travel can start any earlier as the UK is still taking steps to open up itself. IMO I think he will say its too early especially when other parts of the continents are seeing a rise in cases.
All IMO - not long to wait ..
Smithy, the other countries are welcoming the brits .. its a question now of when we can travel .. which countries and what testing/quarantine rules will be applied.
Looks like it will only be the framework announced this Monday - other than Iceland & Israel (that are highly vaccinated) not sure how many other countries can hit the green list atm.. especially when the EU are facing another lockdown and although the US vaccination program is going well cases still remain high.
Be interesting to see what the SP does next week.
... next weeks announcement going to be thumbs up or thumbs down
Interesting interview with the housing secretary Robert Jenrick (link below) .. especially after O'Leary saying book, book, book ??

@dusterinmong cant see a July restart unless the whole of the adult population get a vaccination by then .. but anything is possible.
More than two-thirds of people - 68% - have not booked any summer holiday this year, and most of those who have fear they may have to cancel or rearrange, according to the latest Opinium poll for the Observer - just shows that the public are just as cautious as our Boris LOL
By August, (globally) we should be in a better place with regards to vaccinations and cases - you would hope that Europe will have recovered the third wave and herd immunity. Han**** has previously said that the easing of lockdown in the UK will happen once everyone is vaccinated - giving everyone a 'fair chance' - so August does look realistic.
Then there is a question of which countries make the red, amber or green - and the level of quarantine plus the cost to the passengers for testing/quarantine .. a lot of clarity is required and I cant see full clarity coming on the 12th (as currently the picture is constantly moving).
I do however feel that the current SP is overpriced, grounded flights for another 4 months at least .. realistically think this may go south short term? any thoughts?
I saw the interview this morning with Andrew Marr - with holidays looking to commence from Aug with this travel light systems and potential quarantine - any thoughts to the SP from here to Aug bearing in mind there will be months of cash burn for the next 4 months?
Could France be next to go on the red list ...

UK could add European nations to the the country's "red list" list - whow!!!
