This isn't anything to do with national express I work for another company... End of day we were balloted overwhelming people accepted about 14% increase I think. Other bus company in area rejected and voted to go on strike but averted last minute with accepting a pay deal. Even if they do go on strike it like one day every so often and still services run just reduced as not everyone is in a union. I remember the trains going on strike down here.... The picket line had about six or seven people and each subsequent time got less and less...

Unions just using people in their political game. They don't care that these increases are unsustainable and will lead to route or job cuts to have to fund them. Like here prices went up on tickets but about the pay increase... so customers lose out. One colleague said everytime he's voted to go on strike they've always got a deal but company have made back money somehow by taking away certain things or modifying benefits etc. No winners in the end except the unions who collect chunky monthly fees from members.

A lot of people waiting for the interest rate decisions of america and europe...

Dividend reinstatement is biggest one. If it is what forecasters predict it will be between 4-5% on current prices. Even a 3% dividend will be attractive. I believe that is the biggest moving news in next couple of months. If they don't reinstate it this year but keep blabbing on about looking to as they been for nearly three years then it will drift I fear.

Just remember that this was actually announced prematurely before on their website last Wednesday and then taken down. .. so wasn't exactly 'news'. However I would have expected us to stay 1.43 ish.

Because you want to pick up bargains for the medium to long term...

If there were any bad news Im sure they would try and slip it out with good to minimise impact.

They normally announce when they're giving a trading update and nothing so far.

Similar story to me except I've been buying in over past couple of weeks. Back to what I paid just after the pandemic. Same price as 30 years ago .... Lot to like about this summer and travel.

Are strikes a threat? Yes. Will they cripple the operation? No. Not every driver is a union driver. Not every engineer is. There are ways to minimise disruption.

Not being rude some of the engineers for the company I work for could disappear for a month you wouldn't notice any difference... Not every bus or coach needs work every day of the week beyond filing up with fuel and screenwash.

Yeah but while they're trying to grab a quick 10% I'm looking to make a 100 - 200% return... I know which are the bigger mugs.

Dividend reinstatement will do that. Not reinstated I think a lot of sentiment will go and be a struggle.

I doubt the average person buying even looks at such things

My new approach is not trying to beat the market but supplement it. Can I consistently spend enough time energy etc patience to beat the market in the long run? No. So my core is now passive investing which I supplement with shares that are obviously down in the short to medium term. My biggest enemy against beating the market is my own decision making and patience. But I can boost my wealth a bit for the long term with a few smart moves once in a while and if it goes wrong meh not the end of my future.

Mine was Investec now about 300% up from where I sold and what would have been a monster dividend annually forfeited.

And yes % profits was what I started with and I was happy. I made money and when I lost it was tiny. Keeping shares for years is stressful business and watching trades go from being up to down especially is a killer if you let it get to you.

I too had a massive holding at about 1.20 - 1.40 in various accounts just after the pandemic. Sold out in June for a bit of a profit still. Buying back now. Wish I had sold in the 300s though. Oh well.

Just think people 30 years ago were buying at these prices...

Continue to see busy days at the airport. Coach bays seem more full than they were a few months ago. Make of that what you will. Another airport here is looking to ramp up flights over the coming year, and this airport has more flights this summer. Definitely think this is the year people have had enough of pandemic doom, financial doom, eco doom and going sod it we're off for some fun.

I wouldn't worry too much of covid. I work for a bus company that does an airport route to one of the 'london' airports. Over Christmas/recently there have been huge queues for national express services at the airport. Always an increase on train strike days too. Anecdotal obviously as I don't know normal numbers, how much they're making etc. But numbers definitely up recently.

On the negative though they are cutting a route or two in the region and haven't reinstated a couple of routes 3 years on which have no other rivals so seems strange.

Freetrade you can't buy anything or sell. They say their provider is having technical issues which is affecting a number of share platforms
