The above is a very strange requirement for any airline. I, and my wife, travel frequently between UK and Spain, sometimes together and other times separately. All flight bookings irrespective of whose travelling are made with either my debit or credit card, which is obviously always in my possession, therefore on the occasions my wife travels on her own she would be unable to present the card used to pay for the flight.
This, by the way is all hypothetical, as we check-in online, but I'm sure you'll understand my point, which is that the person making the booking is not necessarily the person travelling.
