It is possible to disagree politely. Equally, politeness doesn't win a debate, you just might chose not to take that viewpoint onboard. For example, 'thank you for that info, I will consider it' (and potentially file it for the future or totally discount it).
However, the benefit of a civil board is that you can at least ask potentially daft laddie questions and get an answer. That is of benefit to everyone, as not only do we get answers, but others are encouraged (or not discouraged) to post.
To use your good self as an example, and plagiarising a quote, I don't necessarily agree with what you say, but I believe you (and everyone) have the right to air your questions and opinions, as long as they are put forward politely and not defamatory.
