Oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region hailed the resumption of crude exports as a positive step for Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the industry, stressing that the new framework provides clarity and a path to settle outstanding debts.

Kurdistan's oil exports officially resumed Saturday at 6:50 a.m. through Turkey's Ceyhan port, ending a 2.5-year halt with 190,000 barrels per day now flowing to global markets under a three-month framework agreed by the KRG, Baghdad, and international companies.

This arrangement formally reopened the locked valves of Peshkabour, reconnecting the Kurdistan Region’s energy lifeline to the Mediterranean. Exports are being monitored jointly by representatives of the KRG’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the Iraqi Federal Oil Ministry. Preparations at the Khurmala oil field near Erbil had already been completed, with crude from all eight fields in Kurdistan funneled there before being transferred to Peshkabour and onward to Ceyhan.

According to Kurdistan24’s correspondent Hoshmand Sadiq, SOMO has contracted with a major Swiss oil trading company to market the crude. Once at Ceyhan, part of the Kurdish oil will be shipped to European markets, while other volumes will head to North America and additional destinations.

According to information obtained by Rudaw from the North Oil Company، "If the pipelines are full of oil، it will not take long to reach the port of Ceyhan، but if not، it will take one to two days to fill the pipeline."

A spokesperson for the North Oil Company said: "We are waiting for a local phone call to start receiving and exporting oil، which we will be notified through as a procedure، which is known as the Oil Phone."

DNO announced it has been instructed to prepare for the Sept. 27 resumption of oil exports, stating it is "pleased that exports...have been unlocked." The company will deliver the KRG's 38,000 bpd share and welcomes arrangements for its own share to also enter the pipeline, supporting the project.

Sept 25 (Reuters) – Oil flow from Iraq’s Kurdistan region to Turkey will restart on Saturday, two Iraqi oil ministry officials told Reuters on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Iraq's prime minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced that the federal oil ministry will receive crude produced from fields in the Kurdistan region and export it through the Iraqi-Turkish pipeline in a "historic agreement".
