Hi Was, last Tuesday first one where it wasn't straight upish or straight downish - FT100 futures, oil, £ and Asia down a tad, gold up a tad. Looks to me like a good day to be contrarian to whatever happens.

15 weeks of intraday first day of the week data and only 3 times has the FT100 not risen into the US open - whether that's after gap up or down on open or early morning fall or rise. One of the most tradeable patterns I've spotted. Futures up, but gold up and oil down a tad.

Hi all, this time the Asian futures seem to have been a better guide. FT100 and US futures up, but after yesterday's mid-morning surrender - a first for A Thursday since I've been tracking it - I've given up backing the FTSE - and as the £ rose and looks like doing it again - and the FTSE250 gapped but then fell back most of the day - the only trade seems to be to short any rise on the FT100 (until the £ starts falling). US was good though...

It's been a gap up then flat day - but futures are higher all around the world and gold and oil are going bonkers. Only draw back is the £ is bouncing strongly so time to repatriate. Maybe the importers retailers and bankers will do well again today ?

Hi Was, trends work until they don't. Always best to back the winners. CRU1, SAUS, IBZL all still thundering on, but up and down with the days mood music and trends. 3BAL had a mini rally on Farms, but 3BAS has been in the box seat since. UK has stopped following the trend and the tanking £ gave an opportunity to safely be off shore. Before we were kicked out of the US for telling the truth someone on Bloomberg said the £ was a sell right down to 1.21 - so could go lower... The only way is to follow a trend, everyone does it, the problem is knowing how long a trend is going to last. Buying low is only following what you think is the start of a new trend. 9:30am next chance for a move on local markets, lunchtime US and global. News is normally leaked ahead of time so positive futures suggest it will be a thumbs up for the world - but unsure about the UK. The trend is for the £ to make moves while I'm driving to work (al part of the conspiracy) so I'll have a look when I get there (LOL). BFN and take care.

Morning Was, Langie, Good news, Oil up, gold down, Asia ex-China, Japan, Korea up, £ flat, US up in a straight line, FT100 futures up with US. Bad news, yesterday FT100 did not join in the recovery, and FT250 was horrible until £ stopped falling. Hoping for a good day all round but you never know. FT100 has had a change of direction on 10 of the 12 weeks I have intraday data for. Best guess up till lunch and a pull back thereafter.

Oops - just got into work good and early so looked again - £ tanking, oil now up a smidge, gold near parity, shows how volatile things are right now.

Oh - £ just put in a higher high - all short options now possible I guess. On a different note - how does the team feel about GGP - form says it will pull back again but I am watching with interest

Morning Langie, well sea of slightly red in Asia and US, gold and oil weakening as money flow into markets dries up, and futures down - which as you say is only an opening bid. I've just double checked and for 11 of the 12 Tuesdays I now have intraday records (excluding those following bank holidays which are really Monday Tuesday combos) - the FT100 has chosen a direction and not reversed all day. only once downward, the other downward day was the one reverse. No UK news due today so I think today will be a one way street - once the morning gap is over (which goes either way) it should become obvious which way we're going. Only challenge for me is which short fund to buy - £ fell early yesterday and is doing so again but then bounced so I guess that will be the time to go short - 3BAS was easily the best option yesterday- trended up from the get go. Anyway GLA.

Morning Langie, in al the time I've been tracking intraday indices, even the worst Monday's have seen a fall and then a bounce later on - a sea of red in the Pacific - could be a big fall - and a bounce some of the way back - not just history - US did bounce after UK shut on Friday and after all, the US economy is not shrinking (yet). Oil and gold a smidge higher - no indication of long term angst there. I guess we just have to wait until Uncle Donald threatens the Fed again.

As I have remarked before - look at the nav - almost dropped back to a buy level now... almost

Yep - non farms 13:30. Commentators always act surprised but recent Friday trend has been up or down at 9 means further up or down by the close. As a US rate cutis already expected I can't see why non-Farms would have an upside but US futures are higher and the Aussies, Indians and Russians are up, so I guess were up today - except FT100 futures are flat and the £ is stronger. FT250 beat 100 yesterday - expecting the same. Oil down a tad, gold up a tad. GLA

Morning guys - Asia up a tad overall - some ex divs today - but with the US celebrating their slightly fortunate but deserved tea drinking triumphs Thursday looks the usually quiet day it is - was a sharp fall last week at 12 due to the bomb scare but it recovered most of the way. Yesterday was interesting to me. Oil did jump at lunchtime but mainly unwound that move, gold did drop but again unwound that move, and the FT100 did try and fall in the afternoon but didn't go very far. Not expecting any big changes today. Futures flat, oil up, gold flat, and we even had another England team qualify for a semi final it will probably lose - so just a typical summer day.

Wednesdays recently variable anyway - unlike Tuesdays and Thursdays. Oil jumps one way or the other around midday. A good day for caution methinks. Started well - so have to predict it won't last - probability 80%

3BAS did well today - might mix that in with my goldies - chart implies further to go this week.

Yep, but the dollar has to come under pressure at some point (OK it's already falling) and their hand will be forced sometime - maybe in a 15 months (LOL).

Hi Langie, yep gold going mental again, even though the indexes are up. Oil in the toilet. I've always thought of oil as the good time commodity and gold as the commodity of last resort, Is this the last hurrah for gold or the stock indexes - I think something has to give - and with the persistence with low interest rates, it may be in the traditional bear months of September or October ?

No wonder CRU1 is my best tracker... US futures up, FT100 futures up - to 7463 … - Gold recovered from yesterday - oil back to base after its sortie to the high ground... looks like a quiet but profitable day coming up. Last Tuesday opened down but rose reasonably steadily after that. Previous Tuesdays were gapping then moving in the direction of the gap. My guess (for I have no more confidence than that) is we gap either way but then follow a reasonably steady path upward from there - here's hoping. GLA
